I keep seeing social media posts about home treadmills and walking pads and it had me intrigued into what they’re all about.  We all know of people who bought treadmills and just use them to hang the washing on them, but are they really that difficult to use or get motivated with?

The UREVO CyberPad for Office is slightly different from other treadmills. It’s not a big (109cm long by 59cm wide) and it doesn’t have all the handles and supports of a treadmill. It’s also a ‘pad’ rather than a treadmill. It operates more as a low-level exercise machine rather than high impact, athletic level.  Although it calls itself a treadmill, the top speed is 6km a hour which is more like a fast walk and wouldn’t get most people running. It starts at 1km an hour though, which is a gentle pace and good for those getting into exercise or trying to do some rehab after an injury.  As it’s a CyberPad for Office, it’s brilliant for a home office (or even at work if you can get it in the building) to carry out your 10,000 steps whilst you are on calls.

I will say that the CyberPad for Office is incredibly heavy. It’s bulky too and difficult to store and it needs a power cable that is provided but is not that long so it doesn’t stretch far. I had to set up the CyberPad in my kitchen because that was the only room on the ground level that I could wheel the CyberPad into that had enough room around it to move as well as be near enough to a plug socket.  Setting it up is easy enough though. The CyberPad comes with a remote control (and batteries) which helps set up as well as with operations. As there’s no support bar on the CyberPad, there’s nowhere to change the settings especially as you’re mid run or walk. The remote control controls the on/off of the walking pad, plus the incline and speed and tells you how many steps you’ve done and the distance.

The UREVO CyberPad is great as a cardio piece at home, because relative to a treadmill, it takes up less room. It’s easy to set up and you can get a fair walking pace on it so for office workouts, it’s great.  It’s very heavy though at 28kg, and in modern houses it’s unlikely you have the room to leave it set up all the time, so you have to move it around on the wheels but also need to have it, and the cable and remote control stored somewhere. It was too heavy for me to move upstairs on my own and the size of it means two people have to move it and try and carry it upstairs, which is nearly impossible with the width of it too. I would have preferred for the speed to have been even 1km faster but it does feel a bit too fast at 6km without the support bars. If you feel you start to lose balance, then there’s nothing to hold onto like you have with a treadmill. The incline is really useful though, because if you can’t get the speed up, the incline works the calves in a different way and increases heart rate. All of which is still better than doing nothing, and a great addition to the home workout set up, especially when the weather is bad.
