I am always on the lookout for tasty treats to pop in my children’s lunchboxes and the new Kingsmill Fruit Fingers have been a big hit this week.

The soft, brioche-style fruity fingers are available in two fantastic flavours, Mixed Berry and Apple & Raisin and as well as tasting delicious they are also a great source of fibre.

Available in packs of four they are perfect for lunchboxes, picnics, breakfast or anytime you fancy a quick snack! As well as packing them in lunchboxes I have been enjoying them with a cup of tea in the morning. They are delicious eaten straight from the pack or  toasted with plenty of butter.

We all think they are really tasty and at 147 calories a finger they aren’t too bad for the waistline either!

Ginsters Butter Chicken Bake

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

We love curry in our house so when we heard Ginsters, had created a Butter Chicken Bake we couldn’t wait to try it. With a recipe crafted by expert chefs, the Butter Chicken Bake is made with 100% British chicken cooked in a rich butter sauce with a blend of spices, coconut and lemon, encased in a light puff pastry.

It can be served hot or cold although we prefer it hot as the pastry crisps up nicely when warm. It’s not too spicy and is the perfect lunchtime treat.

With 1 in 5 people in the UK tucking into a tasty curry on a weekly basis I can see these bakes being very popular, curry isn’t an easy food to eat on the go and these bakes bridge the gap perfectly.

Pop one in your lunchbox for a tasty lunch or serve with salad and naan bread for a delicious evening meal.

RRP £1.50 available from Asda, Sainsburys and Morrisons

With a recipe crafted by expert chefs, the Spicy Sausage and Red Pepper Pasty combines spicy 100% British sausage and smoked bacon with red peppers and onions in a rich smoky tomato sauce. Seasoned with a kick of fiery chilli and encased in flaky golden puff pastry this Halloween pasty is just what you need on a cold autumn day.

Made with high quality ingredients and locally sourced potatoes, it can be served hot or cold although we did prefer it hot as the pastry crisps up nicely when it is warm. It’s not too spicy and is  the perfect treat to warm you up after trick or treating with the children.

KIND Chocolate Chip & Cashew Bars

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

We get through a lot of cereal bars in our house, I often pop them in a rucksack or pocket as a snack to refuel when out hiking or cycling and my teenage sons, who seem to have hollow legs, snack on them at any time – day or night! We do usually stick to stick to the same old brand, so it was nice to have a change and try the new Chocolate Chip Cashew bars from KIND. The bars are packed full of cashews, almonds and peanuts and topped with chocolate chips and I knew my family would enjoy them.

Founded in 2004, KIND believe you shouldn’t have to choose between delicious & nutritious and have created a range of tasty bars that are the perfect choice for those looking for a balanced snack option on the go. The Chocolate Chip Cashew bars are made with over 80% nuts and contain a good balance of protein, healthy fats, and fibre that have helped keep us sustained on our recent hikes and bike rides. The bars easily fit in the pocket of my cycling jersey and really hit the spot when we stop for a quick refuel, the chunks of nuts and chocolate are really tasty and give my energy levels a much needed boost.

Whether you are climbing a mountain, undertaking a gruelling cycle ride or simply want a quick snack then a Chocolate Chip Cashew bar will definitely hit the spot. Made with natural ingredients the bars are high in fibre and are gluten free too.

Joe & Seph’s Prosecco Popcorn & Prosecco Caramel Sauce

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Joe & Seph’s are a gourmet popcorn company with a range of over 80 different flavours of popcorn. With both sweet and savoury options, they have something to suit every taste and  occasion and with National Prosecco Day just 2 weeks away we have been sampling some of their Prosecco treats.

Some sweet popcorns are coated in such thick caramel to the point that you lose the popcorn flavour, Joe &  Seph’s popcorn isn’t like this, their popcorn is hand made in small batches, using the finest natural ingredients and their light, fluffy popcorn is packed full of flavour.

The Prosecco popcorn is available in either a 75g re-sealable pouch or a 30g gift box. The gift box is pyramid shaped with a gold ribbon on the top and makes a lovely gift for friends and family.

The popcorn is more sophisticated than standard popcorn and just the thing for a girls night in – with or without Prosecco!

Pouch RRP £4

Gift box RRP £5

We also tried the Prosecco Caramel Sauce, which we drizzled over vanilla ice cream and also bowls of strawberries. The sauce is lovely and rich and the caramel flavour is heavenly, the prosecco flavour isn’t especially strong but it is there and it made a simple pudding feel incredibly indulgent! It is best to heat the sauce a little in the microwave make it easier to pour – or you can just eat it straight out of the jar!

RRP £5.99

Ritter Sport Nut Selection

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Ritter Sport are a German chocolate brand who make distinctive square chocolate bars that come in a wide range of fillings and flavours. In celebration of World Chocolate Day they sent me a box of their delicious nutty chocolate bars to try, with instructions to keep them squirreled away as the nutty treats are just too tempting for the local squirrels!

With the trademark Ritter Sport logo in the middle, the 100g bars feature images of chocolate coated nuts along with the green 100% certified Sustainable Cocoa Sourcing logo. On the reverse is the ingredients and nutritional information.

Opening the packaging, I was presented with a chunky bar of chocolate with 16 segments, each imprinted with the Ritter Sport logo. When I turned over the bar, I was pleased to see plenty of whole nuts, each segment had a least 1 and some even had 3!

Naturally sweet and with a satisfying crunch, hazelnuts and chocolate are a winning combination. All three varieties – Whole Hazlenuts, Dark Whole Hazlenuts and White Whole Hazlenuts – were absolutely scrumptious. I enjoyed the creaminess of the milk chocolate with the hazelnuts but my favourite was the dark chocolate bar as the bitterness of the dark chocolate contrasted nicely with the nut creating an incredibly moreish treat.

The Honey Salted Almond bar offered a satisfying crunch and the sweetness and saltiness created a real explosion of flavour in my mouth.

Get yours quick before the squirrels find them!!

Locako Keto Collagen Brownie Bites

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

With the new year comes thoughts of New Years’ Resolutions, turning over a new leaf, and of course, better fitness for a new you!  One of the diets which have been popular for a few years is the Low Carb (previously Atkins Diet) or Keto Diet.  The thought behind each of the diets is that lower carbs and higher protein not only allows you to lose weight, not only because you are not ingesting sugar, but because when the body is in ketosis, more fat is burned.

Over 20 years ago I started on a Low Carb diet, which at the time consisted of just the minimum fruit and vegetables, and any cheese, meat or fat which you could get your hands on.  There was very little in the way of commercially available snacks which you could buy in supermarkets or have as lunchbox snacks. Instead, you had to make do with a packet of ham, or make something yourself.

So when I was offered the Locako Keto Collagen Brownie Bites to try, my interest was piqued.  The lovely people at Locako sent us three flavours to try; Chocolate Orange, Peanut Butter Jelly and Almond Butter Cookie Dough. They don’t sound like low carb flavours do they?

Made with nut butters and coconut oil they contain less than 3grams of carbs and 2grams of sugar per bar, they can be snacks, lunchbox additions or even as desserts for anyone on a Low Carb diet.

What are they like though? Well they’re not like the dry, tasteless Low Carb or Keto bars of times gone past. Instead, the bars are more like sticky fruit bars, with a fine texture that gives them more of a sweet taste but also deliciously dense and satisfying.  They aren’t cakes or a bread but instead more like a really thick carrot cake, without being baked which probably comes from the coconut oil. Each of the bars was rich in taste too, with the flavours of the chocolate orange, peanut butter and almond butter coming through. I can’t tell that these snacks are low carb at all because they don’t fit my previous experience of snack bars, which is refreshing!

Would I buy these again? Yes I would. They are low carb enough to be able to be incorporated into an everyday diet, and tasty enough that you will both enjoy them and won’t get bored. An excellent addition to your New You diet!

Available for £2.25 each at: https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/locako-keto-collagen-brownie-bite-chocolate-orange-60062890?skuid=062890

Warrior RAW Protein Flapjack Bar Review

Disclaimer: We received this product for the purpose of the review but all words and opinions are our own

The Warrior RAW Protein Flapjack Bar makes the perfect Christmas gift for friends and family who are into fitness and going to the gym. Easy to slip into a stocking they are bound to be well received on Christmas morning.

We have been trying the Cookies and Cream flapjacks which  make a great post workout snack as each flapjack contains an impressive 20.29g of protein yet has only 3.14g sugar per flapjack.

Despite being called flapjacks, they’re not like a normal flapjack, they are packed with oats but have quite a dense texture which is chewy rather than crumbly.

Convenient when you’re on the go the flapjacks are available in three delicious flavours, Cookies & Cream, Red Velvet Cake and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Each bar is individually wrapped so ideal for the gym bag or easy to fit in a pocket of your cycling top.

RRP: £11.99 for a pack of 12 flapjacks and are currently on sale for £9.99 on the Warrior website and other leading retailers.

Nairns Gluten Free Oatcakes and Biscuit Review

Disclaimer: We received these oatcakes and biscuits for the purpose of this review but all words and opinions are our own.

Nairns have been baking with oats since 1896 and they have a fantastic selection of oaty treats that can be enjoyed by everyone. With a range of #vegan and #glutenfree treats there is something for everyone to enjoy.

They sent me a couple of their gluten free biscuits and oatcakes and they were a bit hit in our house! My husband has been taking then as a snack when out cycling and I have been enjoying the cheese oatcakes with different toppings for lunch.

The Cheese Oatcakes are made with mature cheddar cheese, wholegrain oats, and very little else, and are so tasty they can be enjoyed just as much on their own as they are with a topping or two! I added some cream cheese and home grown tomatoes and they were absolutely scrumptious!

The award winning Chocolate Chip Oat Biscuit Breaks are so tasty and if I had blind tested them I wouldn’t have known they were gluten free!  Containing no artificial colours or flavours the biscuits are full of the goodness of wholegrain oats yet contain only 45 calories per biscuit so are a great choice for an afternoon snack.

They are packaged in handy packs of four biscuits, which not only keeps them fresh but means you can pop a pack in your bag so you can enjoy a tasty snack no matter where you are.

Both packs are currently £1.80 at Sainsburys

Nick’s Confectionery Chocolate Bars

Disclaimer – We received this item for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Nick’s Confectionery provides chocolate treats with no added sugar, no palm oil, all gluten free and only natural sweeteners. We were sent a box of various chocolate bars to try, mainly out pure curiosity but what a treat they were!

The box contained four flavours from their range; Coconut, Peanuts n ’Fudge, Crunch Caramel and Soft Toffee. Each bar is either 28g or 40g depending on the flavour but all are about the right size for a snack, or for a school lunchbox. Each of the flavours is also labelled as being no added sugar, no palm oil, no gluten and ‘Just joy’ so you have no guilt about being filled with sugar, and less guilt about using palm oil too!

Nick’s Coconut Bar
Crunchy Caramel

What were the bars like?  It took me several attempts (honest) at eating the different bars to realise that they are largely based on commercially available chocolate bars, just that they can’t compare then in their packaging. The Coconut bar is very similar to the well known bar on the market, Peanuts N’ Fudge is what we used to call a Marathon (those under 35 might need to Google what a Marathon bar is!) and Crunchy Caramel reminded me of the Danish chocolate bar that is often sold in Ikea.  The Soft Toffee is exactly what it says, but for the life of me I can’t think of a comparison bar right now.

How did they taste? Well you wouldn’t know that there was no added sugar or that they were gluten free, is the honest answer. Each bar is packed with flavour and unlike lots of gluten free food, there is no rough texture to the chocolate or the fillings and they look exactly the same. For someone like me who is meant to follow a Keto diet (and doesn’t) the fact that the bars can be bought by the box, and variety boxes too, makes all the difference!

I think I’ll be buying myself a box of the Favourite Mix for myself (£13.90) but I can’t see them lasting very long!
