In the Penderyn Welsh Whisky Chocolate & Puddle deal, Wickedly Welsh have teamed up two different types of chocolate products, both with whisky flavouring. A new product to their existing range of chocolate treats, this dark chocolate is their usual high quality and made of 100% natural ingredients, but is infused with Penderyn Whisky. Distilled near the Wickedly Welsh Chocolate factory in the Rhondda Valley, the whisky adds a slight taste to the dark chocolate, but is not the overpowering liquor taste we were all familiar with growing up at Christmas! Instead, it’s a subtle taste which you can detect but isn’t overpowering. It means you don’t have to be a whisky lover to enjoy them, but any chocolate lover will relish in a slightly different flavouring but with the high quality dark chocolate to savour.
It’s the same 62% Ghanaian cocoa in each of the products, but presented differently. The Rich Dark Chocolate Bar, at a minimum weigh of 90grams is divided into squares which you can share, or not share! This would be great to be melted into a hot chocolate. The Penderyn Whisky Dark Chocolate Puddles, which have the same slight taste of whisky as the bar, are like giant chocolate buttons, with a light dusting of gold. Easily picked up and eaten, they are sooooo more-ish that I couldn’t put them down! With both of the different chocolates, you can taste the finesse of the ingredients and really enjoy the taste.
These are definitely chocolates for grown-ups and not just because of the added whisky but the dark chocolate appeals more to adults. They are wonderfully indulgent though and make great gifts for Dad, Grandad or uncle… their size also makes them brilliant to pop in the post!

It’s not long until the Easter holidays and I have been thinking of ideas to keep my children occupied and to keep them off electronic gadgets. They love construction toys so I was really pleased to receive a couple of sets from Geomag which will certainly keep them out of mischief this Easter. Geomag is a popular construction toy which uses the power of magnets to build amazing structures using metal rods, spheres and plastic panels and it is so easy (and addictive) to do – the only limitation is your imagination!
Geomag is a great toy as the sets not only encourage hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills but are a fantastic way to encourage creativity and spark imagination, helping to form a love of science, puzzles and construction.
The E-Motion set has all the parts needed to create a spinner – metal rods, spheres and square, pentagon and triangular shaped panels. The instructions are simple to follow, and it didn’t take long to assemble the spinner. I was quite surprised at how long they spun for and we had great fun seeing whose design would spin for the longest. It was really easy to incorporate our existing Geomag sets with this to create different styles of spinners which really got the boys thinking about design and how to create the ultimate spinner. This is a great STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) toy as it combines harnessing the power of magnets in construction alongside the concept of movement.

The Mechanics Gravity Loops & Turns is for older children and fits numerous STEM elements. The set contains 130 pieces that connect together enabling you to make a circuit for the spheres to be propelled around. The set uses the power of magnetism and gravity to move the spheres around the circuit and helps children learn about science. It took my 10 year old around an hour to build with a little bit of help from Dad and was surprisingly sturdy when finished. There are no batteries which is always a bonus!

Like many others I started cutting my husband and son’s hair during lockdown, my first attempts weren’t great and it’s a good job they weren’t leaving the house but after watching a few YouTube videos and with three heads to practise on I quickly improved. The clippers are extremely comfortable to hold and give a nice clean cut without pulling or tugging the hair. They move through hair nicely and don’t get clogged up and are very easy to use either by yourself or on someone else’s hair.
They can be used for cutting hair, trimming sideburns and beards and for trimming around the ears and neckline.
The battery powered trimmer is handy for smaller areas, my son found it particularly useful when trimming his beard and around his ears where the main clipper was a little cumbersome.

If you’ve received a new smartphone for Christmas, or take a lot of photos on your camera you’ll know that the smudge factor is real when it comes to the camera lens. I hate it when I take what I think is the perfect photo, only to find that when I view it, there is that misty blur on all the photos because the lens isn’t clean. It’s the price we pay for handling our phones all day, but there are ways of reducing the smudges.

The iconic Dead Man’s Fingers bottle is back with this new Tequila Reposado. What’s that I hear? You thought Dead Man’s Fingers only did rum? Well, not anymore! As well as 15 different varieties of rum, the company have launched this Tequila Reposado in 2022. Aged in bourbon barrels to give a softer, sleeker taste, it has vanilla and caramel tones with a perfect sweetness which can be added to your favourite cocktails. For example, Dead Man’s Mararita (below) which blends the sweetness with lime juice to cut through to a Margarita taste.
You may enjoy this just with lemonade and ice though, and at 40% it won’t take much to enjoy it. The bright Dead Man’s Fingers bottle will keep you equally entertained this Christmas and makes a lovely gift too!
Dead Man’s Margarita
50ml Dead Man’s Fingers Tequila Reposado
20ml Agave syrup
25ml Lime juice
Prepare the glass using a lime wedge to cover the rim in lime juice. Tip the glass over onto a plate of salt and chilli flakes, twisting it to cover the rim. Shake all ingredients over cubed ice vigorously before straining the cocktail into the glass and garnishing with a lime wedge.

Dead Man’s Fingers is best known for its rum, produced in Cornwall since 2015. Since then, it has moved to bigger premises in Bristol where the distillery is set over several floors, boasting two bars and even a run school.
The company now offers a range of 15 different rums, and is branching out into other spirits, including this new Coffee Tequila Liqueur which was launched in October 2022.
Jumping on the cocktail bandwagon that became so fruitful during lockdown, Dead Man’s Fingers Coffee Liqueur is becoming a favourite of the cocktail lovers, with its smooth coffee flavour and high quality Tequila which can be enjoyed on its own as well as as a shot over ice or as part of a cocktail. I’m sure after 3 years of dubious lockdown periods, most of us will be experimenting with at least a few cocktails this year!
At an alcohol level of 28% it sits well with the cocktail lovers and adds a different flavour to both cocktails, or after dinner. I think Dead Man’s Fingers Tequila Coffee Liqueur works best in a mix as the tequila can be quite strong but as a flavour is a lot of fun. It reminds me of a tiramisu mixture, which would be a lot of fun to experiment with!

For a blended malt scotch whisky, Caisteal Chamuis is leading the way in discerning tastes with it’s double whammy of being both smooth and heavily peated. How can this be so? Well the mystery of how Caisteal Chamuis gets it’s flavour is just as intriguing as how it got it’s name… which is pronounced “Castle Camus” in English.
Caisteal Chamuis is double-barrelled to give an extra smooth, blended malt taste. It’s first aged in refill and first fill American oak hogsheads, then goes through a two-stage re-aging to subsequently rest in virgin American oak barrels and refill hogsheads before the final aging takes place in smaller 200litre bourbon barrels.
The result is a much lighter, blended whisky which would appeal to anyone who might not be a hardened whisky drinker! It is light and slighty floral, with sweeter honey tones and a vanilla finish. The taste, as you imagine with a whisky, is layered so you taste and feel different blends coming through with each mouthful. Caisteal Chamuis is an excellent example of a blended whisky which would also be a great gift for anyone getting started in whisky.

Rarely can anyone say that a new, premium distillery opens in the depths of the Scottish country side but the new Torabhaig distillery is the first to open on the Isle of Sky for 190 years. Using the natural spring water from the nearby stream by the same name, it opened in 2017 to produce malt whisky which distinguishes itself from traditional heavy, peated whiskies.
Torabhaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky is characterised by the short copper stills which were created to literally fit in the building on the farm where Torabhaig is made. The distilling process is used to tame the toughness of the heavy peated malt to ensure it is well-balanced to give more even, delicate peat flavours. The skill of the team of distillers is evident in the result and Torabhaig go to great lengths to ensure the team are well trained for generations to come.
The result is a much paler though still strong whisky at 46%. It’s tasting character is more of a dusky, smoky flavour which comes from its small batches it is produced in. Very elegant in taste, it is earthy and tough and absolutely what you would expect from a Scottish whisky.
It’s a Christmas treat for anyone who is a whisky fan, or who enjoys something different rather than the usual run-of-the-mill whisky choices.

I love music, especially heavy metal and rock, but my music choices aren’t to everyone’s taste, so a good set of headphones is a must for me.
The Edifier W240TN headphones are the perfect choice for me as they not only look great in a stylish gunmetal black (available in gunmetal black or white finish) they feel comfortable and most importantly the sound quality is astonishing!
I have had in-ear headphones before both wireless and wired that didn’t fit well, had connectivity problems and sounded very tinny.
Thankfully, the Edifier W240TN ticks all the boxes and is a cracking set of earphones with fast charging, meaning you can use them sooner (a 10 minute charge will give you approximately 2 hours of use).
Connecting them to my devices was simple via Bluetooth and the booklet gives a rundown of all the settings available.

One job I really hate is clearing out a room in order to decorate it. All those memories, as well as nothing in boxes and all so disorganised. As the furniture and boxes are all in individual parcels, you can put them together at your own pace. I started with the boxes, which measure 250mm (h) x 355mm x 460mm (d) and have interlocking black plastic lids which close in the middle. The boxes all fit on the shelves in case you’re wondering!
The shelving units take two people to put together, but if you’re clever with balancing the beams you could put this together on your own. The shelves are put together with just a rubber mallet and several connectors. There are no screws or allen keys! Each of the shelving units can hold 175kgs in weight. The average man weights around 80kg so you can imagine how much weight that these shelves could house.
The small plastic parts bins are 170mm long and 80mm high. If not for use in a workshop, they make excellent boxes for hobby crafting or keeping children’s toys tidy. For a garage or workshop though, they are invaluable for all the loose items you invariably lose!
I’d never have thought of getting a bundle of garage storage items as a Christmas present but it makes sense for anyone who enjoys tinkering.

Gin seems to be everywhere at the moment and the real drink of choice for many.
I recently received a sample of Brookie’s Byron Slow Gin and was really blown away by this stunning beverage.
Brookie’s Gin’s distillery, the Cape Byron Distillery, is located within the spectacular confines of the Byron Bay Region of New South Wales in Australia and is surrounded by a lush sub-tropical rainforest – a natural pantry for the ingredients of their products.
Brookie’s Byron Slow Gin draws its influence from the traditional English ‘sloe’ gin style, substituting sloe berries for a unique, native rainforest fruit, the Davidson Plum.
The Davidson Plums are steeped in Brookie’s Dry Gin and macerated over 6 months.
They are then blended with Mount Warning Spring water and bottled at 26% ABV.
I tried several mixers with Brookie’s Byron Slow Gin (ginger beer was beautiful) and found it delicious straight or mixed!
