SEA LIFE Aquarium London

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

When it comes to summer holidays, the weather is always better the week before children break up from school, making it difficult to book things to do! The SEA LIFE Aquarium London is the safest bet yet for planning as it’s completely indoors and therefore weatherproof!

Located on the South Bank, in the old County Hall building and next to The London Eye (giant ferris wheel) there is plenty to do in the area.  Book tickets to SEA LIFE Aquarium online and you can reserve your entrance time and plan your day ahead, including transport.

The SEA LIFE Aquarium starts with the Atlantic section. There are more than 10 sections throughout the aquarium including Antarctica and Rainforests, acting as a tour around the world via aquatic life.  The aquarium follows a path where you meet fish and sea creatures in different tanks with informative digital displays that tell you the fish contained within the tank as well as information about their habitat and how endangered they are. There are all sorts of fish, star fish, lobsters and other animals to look at which the children found fascinating and there was certainly something for everybody. You can read as much or as little about the species as you like, or just watch them swim around. Photos are also possible.

As you travel round more tanks, you come to the main attraction of the underwater exhibition – a huge tank containing sharks, turtles and stingray!  There are ample windows around the tank and seating points for small children as well as adults to be able to sit and watch, or in the case of most children, to sit and point at the animals. The sharks are seriously impressive due to their size and their elegance but the turtles are huge, and look just like Crush in Finding Nemo! The stingray and turtles swim around and come up to the glass to ‘greet’ onlookers which makes for some fabulous photos. Some of the sharks swim too, but there are a couple of basking sharks at the bottom of the tank which you can see up close.

Walking around the rest of the exhibitions, there’s an area with Ben Fogel talking about the habitats of the rainforest, an area of rockpools where you can touch shark eggs and star fish and learn about their lifecycles from a member of staff. We loved hearing about how the turtles in the main display were rescued from a turtle farm and brought to London and got to see a real turtle shell, its skeleton and be able to touch it.

The displays are interspersed with different types of interactions, professional photos, a virtual reality lab and activities for children of all ages. We saw babies being carried forward facing so that they could look into the tanks and toddlers being able to watch the motion of the fish for what must have seemed like hours to them!

For both adults and children, the best display has to be the penguins. A large pool with an equally large area of hardstanding behind big glass walls houses the penguin colony who were entertaining and inquisitive. They didn’t seem to mind the number of people watching them and seemed genuinely nosy and came face-to-face with the public with no fear. We watched for ages as they did dove into the pool, swam for fun, swam for hunting and then hopped out of the water onto the ground. There’s ice being churned out all the time to keep them cool and the viewing window (a globe above ground where children can stand and watch them) was especially good fun. The children loved the antics of the penguins and how close they could get to them and we loved watching them. I could sit there for hours!

Before finishing, you go through a sea of jellyfish too, which were magical and fascinated the smaller children with their illuminous properties. The SEA LIFE Aquarium finished with a huge gift shop selling all sorts of soft toys, mugs and keyrings as well as more for the grown-ups. You can purchase the photos at this stage too before walking out to South Bank where you are right next to the London Eye and Shrek’s Adventure.

It took us about 2 hours to walk round the whole exhibition with stopping to see the fish in each display, taking photos and roughly reading the information boards. By the end of the day, we were buzzing from all the sights and sounds of the aquarium and being able to see animals and fish we would never usually get to see in London. It’s a fabulous day out!

Nope Into The Deep Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Complete Set

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

If you’re looking for a more sustainable way to care for your hair, then Nope shampoo and conditioner bars are the way to go. They are completely plastic-freeing, making them a much better choice for the environment and they also pack a punch when it comes to performance. One bar equals three bottles of shampoo or conditioner so not only are you cutting down on plastic, you’re also saving space in your bathroom (or suitcase if you’re heading off on holiday). And it doesn’t stop there, these bars are absolutely bursting with natural ingredients, so you can feel good about what you’re putting on your hair. No nasties, no fuss, just gorgeous, shiny hair and less guilt about the planet. What’s not to love?

Behind every great brand is often a personal story, and that’s certainly true for Nope. Founded by Rosie, Nope was created following her experience with trichotillomania, a condition that causes compulsive hair pulling, which she developed after a bereavement. As her hair began to grow back, Rosie searched for gentle, natural haircare products that didn’t contain harsh chemicals, and struggled to find what she was looking for so decided to create her own. And with that, Nope was born, a brand committed to clean, sustainable, and effective haircare.

As I’m trying to cut dowm my use of plastic I was really pleased when Nope got in touch to see if I’d like to try their shampoo and conditioner bars. With a wide range of products designed for all hair types, I chose the Into The Deep range, which is specially formulated for frizzy, unruly hair, ideal for my wild, curly locks.

The cheapest way to purchase the bars is in a bundle as you can save up to 55% by purchasing in bulk, however if this is your first purchase then it’s worth buying one of the complete sets (RRP £27) which is effectively a starter set and contains the following items.

  • 70g shampoo bar
  • 43g conditioner bar
  • Two aluminium tins for storage
  • A sustainable drying dish (choose from hemu wood or diatomite fast-dry dish)
  • A handy how-to guide

The shampoo bar is packed with nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, seaweed extract, pro-vitamin B5, and lavender, which not only smells lovely but also has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe the scalp. The conditioner is equally impressive, made with rapeseed oil, wheatgerm oil, Abyssinian oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa seed butter. Together, they work to deliver deep hydration, reduce frizz, and leave hair feeling soft and manageable.

I love how easy the bars are to use, the circular shape fits nicely in my hand, and when wet you get a rich, creamy lather which I stroke through my hair before massaging it in. After rinsing I do the same with the conditioner which feels lovely and rich and it is easy to run my fingers through to detangle my curls. .

Since I started using the Nope bars, I’ve noticed a real improvement in my hair, it feels less dry, and my curls are more defined and hold their shape for longer. After two weeks of regular use, the bars still look almost brand new, so I expect them to last much longer than my usual shampoo and conditioner bottles.

One thing to remember after using the bars is to pop them on the drying dish so they can dry out properly before storing them back in their tins, ready for the next use.

This is my first experience with Nope, but I’ve already been browsing their website and discovered a lovely selection of hair and skincare products. I’m definitely looking forward to trying more from their range soon!

BBox Insulating Flip Top Bottle

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

The insulating Flip Top Bottle from BBox is one of those items you don’t know you need until you start using it. The 690ml bottle (shown here in spearmint colour but is also available in varieties of blue, green and pink) appeals to both adults and children thanks to the colours as well as the easy of use and volume.  It has stainless steel inners with a similar stainless steel straw and a flip top spout so that it doesn’t spill. There’s a bendy carry handle too which makes it easy to fix to a backpack or carry by hand and not get broken.

I found this really easy to use. It’s easy to fil up with the screw lid coming off to reveal the stainless steel. Your water doesn’t have to touch any plastic.  I am particularly passionate about not using plastic bottles because of the damage they do to the environment, but few people know what damage plastic does to our bodies, so stainless steel is the best option.  I like the fact that the BBox Insulating Flip Top Bottle can keep drinks cold as well as hot, so it has use during both the summer and the winter.

It’s great for take out on trips, and the robust design means it can be taken to football games, put in the car (the insulating layers means it won’t get hot quick) or in a backpack for lunchtime.  The huge capacity means though, that you can stay hydrated all day on just one fill up. It can take drinks from temperatures as low as -20C right up to 120C. Tell me who wouldn’t want to use a versatile insulating bottle with those credentials?

My Little Sudocrem Aloe Vera

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Sooth summer with Sudocrem’s Aloe Vera skin cream.  In the long line of My Little Sudocrem range, the ever popular Sudocrem comes with the cooling effects of Aloe Vera this summer, in the same handy-sized pot that you find all the My Little Sudocrem characters.

Sudocrem is great for dry skin, relieving itches, as a barrier cream especially when in nature, and calms redness and irritations such as rashes and eczema.  The aloe vera has added soothing properties, often used on sunburn and to help heal inflamed, burnt skin. Many people associate the smell of aloe vera with summer and holiday time, which is no wonder given its healing properties.

The My Little Sudocrem Aloe Vera is the same rich Sudocrem but with the added aloe vera you have a fresh and slightly fruity fragrance too.  I loved using this on my knees and elbows when working from home (it’s a bit rich for hands and if you use it on the face, make sure you really rub it in). It’s also great for holidays because it’s only 22 grams so it’s well under the airport limit.  I found that the Sudocrem Aloe Vera left my skin soft and hydrated with the lovely fragrance of aloe vera that lasted all day.

Schwartzkopf Curl Products

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Summer heat can be the ultimate test for curly hair – one moment, your curls are perfectly defined, the next, they’re overtaken by frizz and start to look a little wild!  Those with curls will agree, when the weather is hot, curls require a lot more care and attention to maintain their shape and keep them hydrated to keep the dreaded frizz at bay.  Fortunately, I’ve found a collection of Schwarzkopf products that that are proving indispensable for keeping my curls in check and they are working tirelessly to keep every curl controlled, moisturised, and impeccably styled.

Let’s start with my two haircare essentials – the Curl Mousse and Curl Balm. Both are vegan-friendly and formulated with innovative HAPTIQ® technology, which strengthens the hair’s micro-bonds while infusing it with a light fresh fragrance. For my shoulder-length curls, I apply a golf ball-sized amount of mousse to soaking wet hair, scrunch it in thoroughly, then follow with the balm. I then diffuse gently to create beautifully defined, soft curls that hold their shape all day – with zero frizz. These formulas deliver essential moisture to my dry curls eliminating that dreaded straw-like feel and leaving my curls soft, bouncy, and healthy-looking.

Both products cost £6 and are available at Boots

To protect my hair from heat damage, I’ve been relying on Schwarzkopf Protect and Repair Spray. The vegan-friendly formula offers protection against temperatures up to 220°C, making it ideal whether I’m diffusing my curls or reaching for the straighteners. Like the rest of the range, it’s enriched with HAPTIQ® technology, which not only creates a protective barrier between heat tools and hair but also helps to smooth strands, reduce frizz, and enhance shine. The spray itself is ultra-fine and evenly dispersed and a little goes a long way.

The final step in my haircare routine is the Schwarzkopf Caring Hairspray – a beautifully lightweight mist that delivers long-lasting hold without leaving my curls feeling stiff or crunchy. Once again, it’s infused with HAPTIQ® technology, and the vegan-friendly formula works to strengthen and smooth each strand, leaving hair with a healthy, polished finish. It’s the perfect way to lock in your style while maintaining natural bounce, softness, and shine. Whether I’m up against frizz or unpredictable weather, this hairspray keeps my curls perfectly defined and under control – all day long.

Both products cost £6 and are exclusive to Superdrug

So yes, summer heat can be a challenge, but with the right products and a little expert care, your curls can look sensational, whatever the weather.

She’s Thick Growth Oil

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

With a brand now of “She’s Thick” and a tagline of, “She’s not thick, but her hair is,” then you can guess that this company has a sense of humour!  She’s Thick is a hair and scalp oil which uses botanicals to promote hair growth and restore the thickness and nutrients to bleached hair. She’s Thick has a few products for hair growth, and they’re geared towards all hair colours, so there’s more to explore if you’re not blonde!

The recyclable glass bottle has a pipette for the colourless oil which you dab onto your scalp and massage in. The oil contains rosemary and peppermint (which you can smell in the tincture) to stimulate stronger hair growth and jojoba, camellia and coconut oils for hydration. It’s a light-weight formula so you don’t see or feel it, but you do get the botanical scent when you wear it which is actually quite fragrant.

I used this before I washed my hair and massaged into my hairline, parting line and scalp.  It works on the roots to strengthen hair that might be damaged through bleaching. After you’ve massaged your scalp for up to 5 minutes, you can run the rest of the oil through the ends of your hair to give a hydrating lift to your colour, which isn’t dulled by the oil but in effect adds a shine. You can leave the treatment in for up to 30 minutes or even longer if your hair is particularly dry or damaged, then shampoo and condition as needed. You can use it every time you wash your hair.

I have been using She’s Thick for several weeks now, washing my hair every other day. You don’t need much of the oil to make a difference, and although I have dark blonde highlights, the oil still works on the rest of my colour to restore a shine. Over time I hope to see my hair get much thicker (who doesn’t?) but for the moment you can see where the treatment works to add hydration to the ends and nourishment to the roots.

Edifier ES20 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

As far as Christmas presents go, you can’t go wrong with a Bluetooth speaker. Edifier have this new 6 watt, Bluetooth v5.4 portable speaker which almost fits in your hand. It has a 43mm driver with neodymium magnets and a 55mm bass radiator.

Enough of the tech talk though – what’s it like to use?  It’s 9.4cm x 9cm x5cm and has a USB-C charging port which comes with the relevant cable.  The controls on the top are on/off, + & – and a light feature. There’s a display of how much battery there is and it illuminates when the speaker is switched on. There’s also a microphone function light which you can see lights up when the microphone is on. The light surrounds the speaker on both sides and pressing it several times changes the light colours or to a solid white. Great for when you’re camping and need to leave a light on to find your way back or to carry with you and see where you’ve left it!

To set up, just switch on the ES20 speaker so that you hear the chime noise, then look in your Bluetooth settings on your phone or device. The ES20 speaker should be there, and you can connect immediately! The speaker actually has multipoint pairing on v5.4 which means you can connect more than one speaker at a time to your one device. There’s about 15 hours of playtime on the speaker too, although I haven’t managed to test that yet as I’ve been playing it for hours on a full charge and it hasn’t given any indication of running out of steam!

You can use the controls on the speaker or there’s the EDIFIER ConneX app which allows you to change settings as well as simple tasks like volume. For the festival goers, it’s also waterproof and dustproof and comes with a handy strap handle to carry it with.

Like most Edifier products, this is a great Christmas gift or handy for yourself when you’re camping, in the garden or for a teenager’s bedroom.

Tolpa Dermo Face Sebio+ Face Wash Gel, 4-Molecule Serum and CICA Correcting Cream

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Ah, acne. I suffered greatly right into my 20s and now that I’m ‘that age’ it’s evident that I’m going to suffer again! Topla Dermo have a range of face products for those suffering from acne and associated scarring or inflammation so they offered to send me some to try in this hot weather.

Tolpa Dermo products were a nice arrival a few weeks ago before the sunshine came, and now they’re invaluable as we battle the hot weather, air con and dehydration.  I was sent the Serbio+ Face Wash Gel, 4-Molecule Serum and CICA Correcting Cream, the latter two mainly for night time skin repair and the Face Wash Gel for daily use.  How have I been getting on with it?

Night time repair is essential to skin and this summer I’ve been using the combination of the 4-Molecule Serum and CICA Correcting Cream.  Before bed, I applied a few drops of the 4Molecule Serum and worked it into my skin. You don’t need much, but the serum is really light and takes minimal effort to massage into your face.  Next, I used the CICA Correcting Cream which is a slightly richer but not oily correcting cream. It works at night to minimise acne as its anti-bacterial, unclogs hair follicles and pores and smooths skin discolouration.

The Tolpa Dermo Face Sebio+ Face Wash Gel contains two acids; AHA and LHA for a deep cleanse and exfoliation without feeling tight. It works with the skin to reduce active acne legions and acne prone skin and can be used daily. I put this in the shower to use when I’m conditioning my hair but it’s gentle enough that you can use it more often. My skin was clean afterwards, but not tight and the use of the 4-Molecule Serum helped rehydrate my skin even more after I came out of the shower.

The combination of all the Topla Dermo Face products together was having a clean, hydrated face that repaired at night. The CICA Correcting Cream was particularly good at smoothing out blemishes that arise during the day and the overall texture of my skin has improved despite the hot weather! Even today, I can feel the effect of the Tolpa Dermo Face products in how smooth and soft my skin is.

Swan 11 Litre cyclone Duo Layer Air Fryer

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Air fryers have become a part of modern living and there are so many on the market nowadays. Swan have a different take on the air fryer with this huge 11 litre capacity double layer (and two drawer) air fryer as part of their range available for Christmas.

If you’re not familiar with an air fryer (where have you been?) then let me explain. Using hot air, in a smaller capacity than an oven, they heat food from the outside in at high temperatures but using a fraction of the energy of an oven. No need to heat up vast expanses of metal in a conventional oven, the air fryer starts cooking as soon as you turn it on, with no need to heat it up first.  With the ‘Cost of Living Crisis’ at the moment, many people are finding air fryers quicker and cheaper to run than conventional ovens.

The Swan 11 litre Cyclone Duo Layer Air Fryer actually replaces an old air fryer I bought a few years ago and has some added features. There are 2 drawers. That means the drawers can keep different food apart and also increases the capacity, but still cooking at the same time.  Each of the drawers has two layers, the top one having legs which you can extend so that you can get double the amount into each drawer. That’s enough size per drawer to cook a whole chicken, or enough food for up to a family of 8. We use one drawer for meat and fish and one for vegetables and snacks, which means there’s less cleaning as well as the vegetable drawer doesn’t have the fat residue that the meat drawer has, and can be cleaned quicker.

There’s 10 pre-set meal selections too. It may not be obvious first but the controls are down the right hand side of the appliance and if you remove the sticker, the pre-set selector is there, including the on/off key.  You can fold out the control panel too so that it’s facing you and is easier to see. With a bit of mastering, you can sync the cooking times in both the drawers so that they finish at the same time. So if you’re cooking a whole meal in the air fryer (which is totally possible) then you can have the air fryer time it so that they finish at the same time to serve all food hot.

I absolutely love air fried food. Meat often keeps its juiciness and vegetables keep their flavour whist still being cooked thoroughly.  We tried a Sunday Roast in the Air Fryer, seeing as there is such capacity and versatility with the different layers.  Pork belly is absolutely gorgeous, and doesn’t take as long to cook in an air fryer. The fat crisps up beautifully with the meat staying succulent too. There’s minimal extra fat needed on any foods as the air convection sears the meat and keeps the heat in.  Vegetables are also juicy. Our courgettes, which are home grown, kept their flavour and didn’t need any extra seasoning even though they were sliced. Potatoes are great roasted in the air fryer too. You can add some fat to them but even if you don’t, they give a lot of flavour and still cook thoroughly, leaving the middle fluffy!

The Swan 11 litre Cyclone Duo Layer Air Fryer has the added bonus of being more user-friendly.  If you have difficulty bending to take something hot out of the oven, the worktop-mounted air fryer is a brilliant alternative. If heavy pots are a problem, then the one-handed drawer is much easier, and lighter to manoeuvre.  The time it takes to cook food is much quicker too, so if you’re on your own, this is a life saver!

JBuds Mini

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own

If, like me, you’re forever rummaging through your handbag, coat pocket or rucksack to find your earbuds, you’ll love the JBuds Mini from JLab. The clever charging case has a built-in keyring loop, so you can clip them onto your keys or bag meaning no more “Where did I put my earbuds?” moments. It’s such a simple idea, but incredibly useful, especially when travelling. These dinky little earbuds are among the smallest on the market, but don’t let their size fool you, they pack an impressive punch when it comes to sound.

I’ve been using them for a few weeks now, including on a recent holiday, and they’ve been brilliant, compact and lightweight, yet they deliver crisp, well-balanced audio that easily rivals more expensive brands. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or catching up on a podcast during a long journey, they never miss a beat.

They come with three different tip sizes for a comfy, secure fit, and while there’s no  active noise cancellation, the snug design naturally helps to block out background noise. There’s also a clever “Be Aware Mode” which lets in ambient sound. perfect when you’re out exploring and want to stay alert.

They’re splashproof (so you don’t have to panic if you get caught in a downpour), and the battery life is good – 5.5 hours of play from the earbuds, with an extra 20 hours from the compact charging case.

The JBuds Mini are also supported by the JLab mobile app, which adds an extra layer of personalisation. You can adjust touch controls, switch between EQ presets, or even create your own sound profile, all from your phone.

Available in five colours, black, sage gray, teal, mint, and my favourite, bright pink, the JBuds Mini come with a 2-year warranty for added peace of mind. Cute, clever, and seriously convenient, they’re the perfect companion for holidays, commutes, and everything in between.

Q The Music’s James Bond Spectacular

Disclaimer: We received free tickets for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

James Bond, the legendary British spy created by Ian Fleming, first appeared in the 1953 novel Casino Royale, introducing 007 as a suave MI6 agent tackling global threats with gadgets, charm, and razor-sharp wit. The character quickly leapt from page to screen, becoming the face of one of cinema’s longest-running and best-loved franchises. With thrilling missions, exotic locations, and that unmistakable Bond cool, the films have captivated audiences for decades. And of course, no Bond experience is complete without the iconic theme songs performed by legends like Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran, and Adele which have topped charts both here and abroad over the years.

Back in 2004, Bond superfan Warren Ringham set out to celebrate the unforgettable music of 007 by forming a band, and over 20 years later, Q The Music is still wowing audiences across the UK. Last night, we had the pleasure of seeing their spectacular show at the beautiful Blackpool Opera House.

While the band can scale up to a full orchestra or down to a tight five-piece, we saw their classic 12-piece setup with a lead vocalist. The mix was spot on, with a bold brass section that perfectly captured the dramatic, punchy sound so essential to the Bond experience.

The evening was hosted by Caroline Bliss – aka Miss Moneypenny in the Timothy Dalton films The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill – who guided us through the performance with behind the scenes stories and warm reflections from her time on set.

The show opened, as expected, with the iconic instrumental James Bond theme, a powerful introduction that set the tone for the night. The next two numbers were the perfect way to showcase the evening’s vocal talent – Kerry Schultz and Matt Walker. Kerry dazzled with both her voice and stage presence, delivering a bold and brilliant performance of the Shirley Bassey classic “Goldfinger.” She truly owned the stage. Matt followed with “Thunderball”, channelling Tom Jones with an astonishingly long final note that brought the house down – what a way to kick things off! Later in the evening, he showed his incredible vocal range with a stunning, emotional rendition of “Writing’s on the Wall”, capturing the haunting style of the Sam Smith hit beautifully.

The first half took us on a thrilling journey through Bond soundtracks, ending the first half with a phenomenal performance of “Tomorrow Never Dies” complete with dramatic pyrotechnics and was a fitting end to the first half of the show.

The second half burst back into action with the Bond theme once again, with another electrifying guitar solo from the brilliant Dan Booth – it really set the tone for what was to come. Highlights included a high-energy performance of “Live and Let Die” and a beautifully delivered version of Adele’s “Skyfall.” Looking around, it was clear we weren’t the only ones impressed – the audience were completely absorbed, and the enthusiastic applause said it all.

With Warren Ringham’s expert musical direction, every member of the band gave an outstanding performance and you could see their passion for the music, making the entire show an absolute joy to watch.

Q The Music is currently performing one-night shows at theatres across the country, with their next stop at Glasgow Pavilion on 18th July. For full tour dates and tickets, visit their website – it’s a night no Bond fan should miss.

The Krafted Connex

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Keep your devices connected and up-to-date with the Krafted Connex in your pocket.

The handy Connex gadget has 5 connectors in one product which can allow for high speed data transfer between phones, laptops and other devices as well as charge from one to another. Like a Swiss Army knife, the Krafted Connex folds up into the size of a packet of chewing gum to be able to be packed, in a pocket or thrown at the bottom of a bag.  It also comes in two colours; jade (like the one in the photo) and charcoal.

The Krafted Connex has a USB-C plug at one end, which comes with a USB-C to USB-A adaptor already attached. This is important because when it comes to charging or data transfer, the Connex needs to be plugged in to each device at opposite ends. So I had to remove the USB-A first, then attach my speaker to the USB-C plug on the other end in order to charge it.

All the connections are:

INPUT:

  • USB-C Connector
  • USB-A Connector (as an adaptor)

OUTPUT:

  • Lightening Connector x2
  • USBC-Connector
  • Micro USB Connector

There’s actually 8 different combinations of connections you can make with the gadget, and because it’s made of Flex Silicone rubber, it can twist in all sorts of ways to get the connection you need. It folds up nicely so that you can store it away and the keyring on it ensures you’ll always have it handy.

This is great as a Secret Santa or for the stocking of a teenager or someone travels a lot. You could also use them as gifts for clients who are always out and about – nearly everyone would find a use for them!

Filippo Berio Olive Oil Sprays

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

We are all familiar with olive oil for cooking nowadays, but with the advent of air fryers, the Filippo Berio Olive Oil sprays have come into their own.  There’s the Mild & Light Olive Oil Spray specifically for air fryers and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spray for dressings and flavour.

I started with the Extra Virgin Olive Oil spray (green bottle) when frying bacon.  I usually pour the olive oil into the frying pan but this time I sprayed it. The spray is fan-shaped so you can spray it across a pan easily rather than a round, radial spray that’s really direct. It sprays really nicely with not too much olive oil and very evenly.  It was easy to get the olive oil up to temperature and then add more to the pan whenever I needed to. Surprisingly, it was easy to clean as well because the spray is so light, it doesn’t coat the surrounding surfaces as much as poured fat, and it came away from the frying pan easily after the bacon had cooked.

I then used the Mild & Light In Colour Filippo Berio Olive Oil Spray in the air fryer. If you’ve never used an air fryer before, you just add food to the tray and some oil to help cook and colour it, but pouring oil is useless unless you really need to coat the food. The light olive spray is all that’s needed for air fryer cooking and has more uses.  I often make sweet potato crisps where you have to coat each side of each crisp before it goes in the oven and I hate coating them with a brush dipped in olive oil! There’s so much waste then too. The olive oil sprays allow you to use a tiny amount, or build up a layer depending on what you’re cooking.

I really enjoyed trying out different food and cooking techniques using the Filippo Berio Olive Oil Sprays and I don’t think I’ve ever used them before, but will look out for them now, especially when I’m cooking in the air fryer.

Sensse Beauty Elite LED Face Mask

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

I was very excited to be offered a red light mask by Sensse, having seen them on social media but knowing that I didn’t want to buy one without trying it out first.  Sensse actually sent me their Elite LED mask though, which is not only a red light mask but also contains all the other colours of the spectrum which brings with it the different healing properties. So when it arrived, I was super excited!

Red light has healing properties for the skin which includes reducing fine lines and therefore slows aging. However, the other light frequencies have properties too such as cyan light for calming and white light for revitalisation. The Sensse How To Guide that comes with the mask explains the different lights and their properties, as well as showing you a pictorial of what the lights are and which modes to use.

Before using the mask, you have to set up the Velcro straps and controller which is plugged in with the included cable.  There’s a tiny bit of charge already in the mask but it’s best to charge it fully and the How To Guide tells you how to charge it from a USB-C point and how to know when it’s fully charged.  There’s also instructions of how to test the LED lights on your forearm just in case you’re allergic or have a reaction to the lights. The timetable builds up your resistance to the light but if you do have a reaction, stop using it and contact Sensse!

After setting up and reading the instructions (they’re not complicated so don’t worry) I had a test of 5 minutes with the NIR mode. This is Mode 8 on the controller. It is above the white light range and contains all the colours so it was a good test of my skin sensitivity.  The controller sits in your pocket and makes a sound when the time is up (it defaults to 10 minutes but you can adjust it the first few times to 5 minutes). Success! No reaction, so I can leave it a few days to try the other colours for 5 minutes.

2 days later, I tried the red light (mode 2). This is the famous anti-aging frequency which over time should slow the aging of your skin. Again, I tried it for 5 minutes. Not only would I suggest shorter amounts of time to test light sensitivity, but I found this time I had to adjust the straps so that the mask fitted properly on my face. This also affected how I held my head (tip: don’t try and work on a laptop with the mask on!) and I could feel a headache coming on from the weight.  Sitting back or lying down is preferable which is what I was doing the first time, so I shall be doing that most of the time I’m wearing the mask until I get used to the weight. It’s not that the mask is heavy, it’s that my head, neck and shoulders aren’t used to the forward weight or the straps around my head, which is why I had to keep adjusting it.

Wearing it around the house was easy though, and it’s not uncomfortable (the Velcro straps are easy to adjust even when you’re wearing it). The light isn’t too bright, although you shouldn’t aim the light directly into your eyes, and it doesn’t get hot or sweaty at all, even in the hot weather. I would suggest using the 10 minutes of light time to relax though, as it’s a good reminder to slow down whilst your skin rejuvenates.

This is a beauty tool which you can keep using for months in different ways. Not only the red light, but in time you’ll find the yellow light helps brighten your skin and with lymphatic drainage, blue light helps improve rough uneven skin texture and purple improves dullness, hydration and resilience. From using the red light this week, it feels nurturing even thought I won’t be able to see any long term affects for a while.

I have only been using the Sensse Elite LED Face Mask for just over a week, so long term improvements will take a while.  However, after just one session of red light, I went to meet a friend who commented that my skin looked glowing, and the only reason I can put it down to is the Sensse Elite LED Face Mask! I am also aware that this is summer and the LED mask will come into its own in the autumn and winter when the natural light starts to wane and we rely on other methods to get light therapy.  The versatility of this mask and the fact there are so many lights and it’s so easy to charge the mask, it makes a great companion whilst working from home or trying to relax. I can feel comfortable whilst wearing it, which is part of the process, and I’m looking forward to the long-term effects.

Swan 20 litre Nordic Digital Microwave

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Kitchen appliance company Swan have the slogan ‘Designed for Life’ and that’s exactly what this Nordic Digital Microwave is for.  With a stylish, modern aesthetic, the handle is in Scandi-style wood and the design is very sleek with a turn-dial for the timer and limited buttons for the settings. It’s not very heavy either, so this is great for a student moving in and out of digs, or for someone with limited dexterity who can’t press buttons easily.

Straight out of the box, the microwave has a glass turntable which needs setting up, but it can be plugged in and used straight away. There are instructions of course, but it doesn’t need many as we all know how a microwave works now and Swan have their displays down to a ‘T’!  I set the clock (without instructions, it was that easy) and then you press microwave and turn the dial to see the time set. There are settings too for vegetables, reheat, fish, meat and pasta among others, when you use the Auto Cooking feature. There’s also a defrost feature and this is a 800w microwave, which is important when reading recipes!

The inside of the microwave is white and easy to clean, with the removeable turntable and clean surfaces plus an interior LED light.  If you’re not familiar with a 20 litre capacity, it is about the size of a dinner plate, so for anyone living alone, this is the prefect capacity size. This model colour is oatmeal in colour but it also comes in white, blue, grey and green. Swan give you a 2 year guarantee on top too.

The Swan 20 litre Nordic Digital Microwave is part of the Nordic set which also includes a kettle, toasters, slow cooker and storage jars. I’ve loved using it this week, and find the controls really easy, especially with a busy life and no time to learn a new How To book. It fits in with my kitchen too!

Jade & Joy Collagen Protein Bars

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

We always seem to be hungry at The Review Studio, so when Jade & Joy sent us these chocolate bars, we decided to tuck in and enjoy the vast selection of bars they sent us.

Collagen is needed for skin, hair and nail growth and is often credited for keeping skin in good condition.  As we get older, we lose collagen in the skin and don’t make as much of it so taking a supplement has its benefits. Jade & Joy have a range of different chocolate bars which contain collagen as well as other added vitamins and minerals. I was amazed at the range of flavours the bars were, from Salted Caramel to Cookie Crumb, Caramel Blondie and Marshmallow biscuit. They don’t taste like ‘health’ bars at all because they’re mostly chocolate and still have the sweet taste to them, with no bitterness like some alternative products have.

Jade & Joy were also kind enough to send us a selection of the plant based Yubi Bars in a Variety Pack which also includes some Christmas seasonal flavours.  Great for stockings, Secret Santa as well as a daily snack, there are flavours such as Yule Log, Gingerbread and Choc Orange.  All of them contain 10 grams of protein, 99 calories and 0.3 grams of sugar. These bars are pocket sized for snacks after school but as they’re high in protein, they’re also great for after the gym. The festive flavours are fabulous though, with gooey centres. The Mint Choc bar was probably my favourite but all of them were yummy with a few quiet minutes in the afternoon.

Helly Hansen Scout Duffel and Scout Wash Bag

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Whether you’re camping in the Yorkshire Dales, catching a flight to somewhere hot and sunny or heading to a cosy countryside hotel, there are two pieces of kit every traveller needs  and they are  a decent wash bag and a sturdy holdall.

Over the years I’ve owned plenty and the quality really does vary from brand to brand. Broken zips, flimsy fabric that doesn’t stand up to wear and tear, and wash bags that fail to contain leaks – I’ve seen (and cleaned up) the lot. So, when Helly Hansen got in touch and asked if we’d like to test out their Scout Duffel and Scout Wash Bag, I was more than happy to put them through their paces.

A wash bag might not be the most glamorous piece of travel gear, but it’s one of the most useful – and one of the most abused. It needs to be strong, practical, and large enough to carry all the essentials and the Helly Hansen Scout Wash Bag (RRP £25) impressed me straight away. It’s made from tough 600D polyester with a water-resistant TPU membrane and is ideal for keeping the inevitable shampoo or shower gel leaks contained and away from the rest of your luggage.

Inside, there’s one spacious main compartment, plus a mesh ventilation pocket for smaller items like lip balm or toothbrushes. The hanging loop is sturdy and ideal for use in campsite toilet blocks where surfaces can be few and far between. It’s deep enough to stand travel-sized bottles upright and even fits a few full-sized products without becoming bulky. The only thing I’d add is another mesh pocket for a bit more internal organisation, but all in all, it’s a robust, functional wash bag that is made to last.

Now, on to the Scout Duffel. This one comes in four sizes – 30L, 50L, 70L, and 90L – so there’s one for every kind of trip, from overnight stays to longer adventures. We tested the 30L version and found it to be the perfect size for weekends away. It’s got a wide, U-shaped zip opening that makes packing and unpacking nice and easy and even when empty, the bag will hold its shape, which makes organising your things that little bit easier. A handy separate zipped compartment at one end is great for shoes or dirty laundry, and if you want to keep your hands free, padded shoulder straps are tucked away in the top lid so you can wear it as a backpack.

Like the wash bag, it’s made from tough 600D nylon with a TPU coating for water resistance – handy when you’re navigating train stations in the rain or hauling your bag across a muddy field. There’s also a lockable zip on the main compartment, offering that extra bit of security if your bag’s going in the hold or overhead rack.

Both the Scout Wash Bag and Duffel come in a range of colours – Rain Blue, Purple Clay, Alpine Frost, and classic Black so there’s something to suit every taste.

In short, these two bits of kit are practical, well-designed, and built to withstand the demands of regular travel. Whether you’re a camper, a weekender, or a frequent flyer, the Scout range from Helly Hansen is well worth a look.

Dobble Giant and Piles Board Games

The summer holidays are fast approaching, and like many parents, I’ve already started thinking about how to keep the children entertained whilst they’re off school. Asmodee kindly sent us a couple of great games – Dobble Giant and PILES! – and I can already tell that both games are going to be a firm favourites this summer.

We’re big fans of the original Dobble, and the giant version brings a whole new level of fun to the game. Each oversized card features five symbols, and there’s always one (and only one!) matching symbol on any two cards. The aim is simple – spot the pair faster than anyone else!

The big difference with this version of Dobble is that it’s designed for outdoor play, with oversized cards placed on the ground for players to run between as they spot the matching symbols. So not only are they using their brains, they’re burning off plenty of energy too! It’s a brilliant way to make the most of sunny days, but if the weather turns, it works just as well indoors.

With four different games to play with the cards, it should keep them busy for a good while!

Relay Race
4–12 players (with a 2-player variant), this fast-paced game involves two rows of 10 cards laid on the ground. Players race down the row by naming the matching symbol between each card they step on. At the end, they high five a teammate who races back—the first team to finish wins!

The Cat
3–8 players. Played with a 4×5 grid of cards face up on the ground. One player is the Cat and starts on a corner; others choose their own starting card. Everyone moves simultaneously by finding a matching symbol on an adjacent card -avoid the Cat or you’re out, and the last player remaining wins.

The Circle
2–10 players. Place all 20 cards in a circle on the ground and space players out evenly. Everyone races clockwise, finding and calling out matching symbols on the next card before moving. If one player catches another, the slower one is out – last player left wins.

Face-Off
5–11 players. One player acts as referee while the rest split into two equal teams and assign secret numbers starting from 1. The referee flips two cards and calls a number, those players race to find the matching symbol. Whoever finds it first wins both cards for their team, and the team with the most at the end wins.

Each game takes just 10–15 minutes and we have found them to be just as much fun for children and adults. There’s also no need to simplify the game for younger children, in fact ours were often quicker than the grown-ups! The cards are colourful, durable, and a decent size although I wouldn’t recommend using them on wet grass if you want them to last. Whether you’re planning a family picnic, garden playdate, or just want to get the children outdoors for some fresh air, Dobble Giant is a great way to keep the children entertained this summer.

If your family loves fast, frantic games, then Piles! is one to pop straight on your summer games list. It’s a high-speed, all-play-at-once card game so there’s no waiting around for turns. Just be warned: when older children and competitive adults get stuck in, things can get very chaotic!

The aim of the game is to be the first to collect six matching piles of clothing. Sounds simple? Well, some of the items are cleverly designed to look similar and catch you out—so you need to stay sharp! Everyone sits in a circle with six piles of four cards laid out in front of them, and four cards face down in the centre. You’re only allowed to use one pile at a time, swapping one card at a time, and the piles you’re not holding must stay face down until it’s complete. It’s quick, clever, and incredibly frantic as everyone races to build their matching sets at once.

Games take about 10 minutes, so it’s perfect for quick bursts of fun or back-to-back rounds. Since launching last October, Piles! has already sold over 50,000 copies and it’s easy to see why. It’s gone viral online, and once you’ve played a round or two, you’ll be hooked.

Whether you’re indoors on a rainy afternoon or outdoors in the sunshine, Piles! guarantees plenty of fun but don’tt expect a quiet game because it will gets loud and chaotic and that’s exactly what makes it so much fun to play!

Peppersmith Taster Box featuring Gum, Mints and Pastilles

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

We can’t make up our minds whether this is a stocking filler, Secret Santa, gift for teenagers or a subscription box for the whole family, but Peppersmith surprised us with this tasty variety box of gum, mints and pastilles so we thought we’d try them and find out!

Featuring two boxes of six varieties (that’s 12 boxes in all), there’s both Peppermint and Spearmint gum, Extra Strong Mints, Peppermint Mints, and Strawberry and Lemon Pastilles.  Made in Britain with the mint sourced from a Hampshire farm, all the products contain no sugar, just Xylitol which is lower in calories and approved by the Oral Health Foundation. They’re also gluten free, vegan, nut oil free and free from palm oil and the boxes are made of cardboard so there’s very little litter from them, totally recyclable.

I started with the mints, which is not something I usually eat unless it’s after a posh meal at a restaurant. The Peppermint Mints (In the green box) were very strong with a peppermint taste. I crunched mine to release the flavour which I find is the best way!  On the back of the Peppermint Mints, I then tried the Extra Strong Mints (blue packet). I think both of them are particularly strong, and I only had one of each. Each time, they left my mouth unbelievably minty fresh and the freshness lasted quite some time. There’s about 25 mints in each packet, so great for a pocket or a handbag.

The Strawberry and Lemon Pastilles aren’t what I would usually buy but they were lovely none the less. The same size as the mints, they’re round gems of flavour with the lemon variety being my favourite. As the pastilles don’t contain sugar, they don’t coat your teeth after eating them and the lemon one is especially refreshing.

Although I don’t chew gum much these days, I would only chew sugar free, so the Peppermint and Spearmint Gums were a nice change. Again, you can taste that there isn’t any sugar in them and all-natural flavours. The only downside to the gums was that the flavour and texture didn’t last that long and I found myself disposing of them after about 10 minutes. With commercial gum, I find that I can chew it for about an hour and it loses only some of its elasticity. Peppersmith’s gums had that lovely initial crunch as I bit into it, then there’s the flavour that hits you and finally the texture. It was the texture that I found particularly difficult after 10 minutes, although I don’t know how long chewing gum is meant to last – maybe 10 minutes is it’s maximum! Still, there’s plenty of pieces in the pack and there’s two packs of each flavour.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this Taster Box as much as I did, but I found that I was popping a mint or chewing some gum each time I sat down to work or after a meal. It could totally become addictive and a subscription in our house, especially as there are even more flavours to try that I haven’t even looked at yet!

DenTek Comfort-Fit Dental Guard

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Let’s talk about something that most of us don’t know that we do – Bruxism. Grinding the teeth at night can a be a sign of stress and anxiety, blocked airways or a deformed mouth. I grind my teeth because my jaw doesn’t fit my skull properly, causing tension and grinding which in turn damaged my back teeth and causes problems. A vicious cycle! Dentist mouth guards are custom made, but what they don’t tell you is that when all your teeth are covered by a mouth guard all night, they start to stain, which is the pre-cursor to cavities.

So when DenTek showed me the Comfort-Fit Dental Guard which fits just on the back teeth, this was my chance to test the theory of why my teeth stain and what can be done about it! The pack contains 2 guards which are easy fit, and a storage case.

The DenTek Comfort-Fit Mouth Guard is BPA and Latex free. The guards have ‘bite pads’ which are attached via an adjustable band. To get the right fit, place the bite pads at the back of your teeth, on molars and the band fits around the front of your teeth on the bottom jaw. The band is adjustable though, so through trial and error you can move the band in and out so that it sits snugly on your teeth. I suggest doing this during the day when you’re not about to go to bed so that your mouth gets used to it.

During the night, the pressure of your teeth grinding helps keep the guard in place, but the shape of your mouth also keeps it in place when you open your mouth to breath, or if you need to drink. I wouldn’t recommend eating with it in. The bite pads are thick enough that you can bite on them with considerable force and not damage them, but that does mean your own teeth are protected.  The rest of your teeth are available to the usual night time saliva though so the good bacteria in your mouth can help prevent staining.

The more you wear then, the less unusual they feel. They’re not uncomfortable at all, not like full mouth guards as they don’t enclose the teeth or prevent teeth from natural movement. I liked knowing that my jaw and molars were protected as well as the enamel on the rest of my teeth. They’re cheaper than the dentist made ones too!

Desire2 Smartphone Stand, Tablet Stand and Laptop Stand

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Tech accessories are everywhere nowadays, but few are actually useful! Desire2 sent us this set of lightweight aluminium stands for laptops, smartphones and tablets. As I never got around to getting any of them during lockdown, it was a bit of a treat to be able to set them up and use my tech properly!

Each of the stands pack completely flat. They’re metal, but very light to carry so you can pack them to travel or even in a laptop bag. Each one has rubber footings to make them more secure and non-slip on a surface. The laptop stand can hold a computer measuring from 10-15.6 inches with 6 different level adjustments depending on what height you’re looking for. The higher levels allow you to prop up a laptop (such as a MacBook) with a camera at the top so that you’re eye-level during a call. Otherwise, the lower levels allow you to watch a video or type at a more comfortable angle.

The smartphone stand can be used for either phones or tablets, depending on their size and how you want to view them.  With a rubber foot to hold your device up from the table surface, it won’t mark a touchscreen as there are no metal corners. You can adjust the angle of the view as well as the back support to give a higher lift.  You can feel that even though the stand is lightweight, it’s incredibly anchored and doesn’t move, especially with the grips on the base. The last stand is the smaller ‘Anywhere’ model which is designed for taking anywhere. This stand is so small that it can be flattened to about 1 centimetre flat and even fits in a pocket, but it’s useful for both phones and tablets.

Each of the stands are designed for easy charging access, especially as most smartphones charge from the bottom nowadays. The smaller stands are both really stable, and the laptop stand would be too but for the lever at the back that doesn’t sit as firmly in the support as I would have liked. It collapses if you pick it up from the wrong arm as there’s no pivot in the lever and changing levels means you have to pick it up and hold the weight of the laptop to fix it into place. It works perfectly if it’s stationary but it would be more sturdy if the back support snapped into place. It still folds flat though and is still very strong.

These are great as Secret Santa items or for setting up a home office for a teenager needing accessories for their new laptop. I have so many uses for them because I always have my phone and laptop around and need some way of propping them up whilst I’m doing a million other things, so I’m very glad to have them at hand now!

Warmies Yellow Flower Pot

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

At first glance this adorable Warmies Yellow Flower Pot looks like a cheerful soft toy, but this little beauty has a soothing secret! Filled with natural grains and gently scented with real French lavender, it’s designed to help you relax, unwind and even drift off to sleep. Simply pop it in the microwave -for 60 seconds if your microwave is 600–800W, or just 45 seconds for 850–1000W and the comforting warmth releases the most calming lavender scent. Perfect for those nights when you need a bit of help winding down.

And here’s a clever twist for summer: it’s just as effective cooled! Pop it in the freezer for a little while and it becomes a refreshing cold compress, ideal for warm evenings, little bumps, or even giving a spot of relief from menopausal hot flushes.

I’ve been using mine instead of a traditional heat pad, and it’s worked wonders for cramps and aches. The little ones have totally fallen for it too, cuddling up it at bedtime, and it’s really helped them settle quicker and sleep more soundly.

There are three gorgeous colours to choose from, yellow, blue, and orange and the bright, happy flowers look fantastic on a shelf. Plus, no watering required!

Whether you’re after a sweet bedtime soother or a cute, cooling cuddle buddy for the warmer months, this lovely little flower pot is a total summer must-have.

FIGGI Beauty products

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

The team at FIGGI Beauty have sent us a whole hamper of lovely beauty products to try from their FIGGI range. So many products in fact, that I have had a hard time keeping up with all that there is to try!  FIGGI Beauty is rooted in a philosophy that skincare should be gentle, effective and rooted in self-care. The range is produced by Jeanne, who turned her life around after a diagnosis and decided to create her own skincare range based on her favourite product – South African Rooibos!

The first set of products is the FIGGI Beauty Purify The Goddess Makeup Dissolving Balm-to-Oil Cleanser for dry/sensitive skin and Refresh The Goddess Gentle Gel Cleanser for dry/sensitive skin.  Both bottles, used together, are 100ml pumps that remove make up and daily dirt. Purify The Goddess starts off as a balm and then melts into the skin nicely, to be able to wipe away make up. It’s not heavy at all but it does have the properties of an oil to be able to glide over the skin. It also dissolves any make up that it encounters! The second stage is Refresh The Goddess which is a gel. This doesn’t melt as much, and it seems more hydrating so it seems fitting that the two of them work together to combat dry skin. The lack of alcohol in these two products means your skin doesn’t dry out when they’re used and they do really work to dissolve make up effectively. I haven’t had any reactions to the products either.

Nourish The Goddess Evening Rescue Cream (also made with Rooibos) is a great follow-up to the cleansers. It’s light, with no fragrance and absorbs easily. A night cream doesn’t have to have a heavy SPF so Nourish The Goddess hydrates the skin, leaving it with that subtle dewy look.  It’s certainly hydrating and doesn’t clog pores at night allowing your skin to renew.

Nurture the Goddess Antioxidant Enriched Day Cream managed to hydrate even my tough skin and although it’s fragrance-free too, it did seem to have a lovely ‘aura’ about it when I put it on. This Goddess Day Cream strengthens the barrier of the skin and defends against daily environmental factors. I used this throughout the day at my desk to hydrate my face in the ridiculously hot weather. Unlike the Evening Rescue Cream, Nurture The Goddess doesn’t leave a shininess to the skin. Instead, it’s a matt finish which allows you to wear make up on top of it.  I like how light this cream is, and it goes a long way so you don’t need much. I can highly recommend leaving it on your desk to use frequently too!

The Slow Glow Gentle Retinol Renewal Serum for Dry/Sensitive Skin provides a gentle base to your FIGGI skincare. Worn under the Nourish The Goddess Evening Rescue Cream, Slow Glow needs to be used 1-3 times a week and then built up over time until it is used nightly. This is because retinol is a powerful ingredient but works with the Night Cream to make your skin more luminous. I have used this a few times but not every night so far (I’m building up to it!) and it does give a lovely base and I can feel my skin more hydrated.

Finally, FIGGI Miracle Mist is a Rooibos infused Toner-Mist which is also aimed at dry or sensitive skin. It’s also fragrance free and Essential Oil Free.  This 120ml spray was a life saver during the hot weather, and I highly recommend leaving this on your desk too! The refreshing spray hydrates the skin but I also found during the heatwave that the evaporation helped loads especially in the evening. It’s no wonder that Miracle Mist won silver in the Universal Beauty Awards 2025 with the duel hydrating and antioxidant properties.  It’s a great addition to your skincare bundle.

The whole FIGGI range is available to buy at: https://www.figgibeautyuk.com/collections/all with some products already in bundles. Postage is free when you spend over £30.

Delph Sun Care SPF Sun Cream

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

A trip to the Welsh coast during the hottest week of the year was the perfect opportunity for us to put Delph sun care products to the test. With a campsite right by the beach and long coastal and mountain walks planned, I knew we were going to need plenty of sun protection.

Suncream can be pricey, especially when you need to keep reapplying throughout the day, but Delph offers a fantastic budget friendly option that doesn’t compromise on quality. Both the SPF30 and SPF50 are very reasonably priced (RRP £8.99 and £9.99 respectively), and they’re also extra water resistant making them perfect for beach days, swimming and hiking. Delph sun cream are also one of only seven brands that can be prescribed by doctors for people with medical skin conditions so they’re perfect for those with sensitive skin too.

Over the course of the week, I used both the SPF30 and SPF50, applying in the morning and topping up during the day, especially on my neck and shoulders, which are prone to burning. I also reapplied after going in the sea. Despite hours of blazing sunshine (we definitely picked the right week!), my skin didn’t burn and is now looking healthy and golden.

After a day in the sun, good after sun cream is essential and the Delph After Sun Lotion (RRP £3.99) contains soothing Aloe Vera, moisturisers, and Vitamin E to help soothe and calm your skin after being in the sun. The rich, nourishing lotion helped cool and hydrate my skin, sinking in easily and leaving it feeling soft and refreshed. It is also helping my tan last a little longer with no sign of any peeling.

With its UVA, UVB, and water resistant properties, Delph sun creams offer great all-round protection, whether you are playing on the beach, walking, sailing or just out and about in the sun. Affordable, effective, and kind to skin they are summer essentials.

Available from Delph Sun, Independant Pharmacies, Amazon and Weldricks

Altamura Vodka for Father’s Day

Disclaimer – We have received this item for free or on a loan basis for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

You probably don’t associate vodka being Italian, bu I bet you didn’t know that Altamura Vodka was made from ancient grain, making it 2,000 years old? The ancient durum wheat is grown in Altamura or neighbouring Puglia to produce vodka which can confidently say that it’s been around longer than most other spirits!

At 43% proof, this is one for cocktails, which Altamura is perfectly suited for thanks to its raw wheat taste which blends to a soft finish. There’s tones of lemon and grapefruit there too, not unlike the hills of the Altamura region in Italy.

For vodka lovers, Altamura is a great choice as something different yet classic. There are fewer ingredients which gives it a clearer taste and makes it excellent for making cocktails with.  Versatile vodka is great for Father’s Day or as a birthday present, especially if Dad likes Italian spirits!
