The Biskery 12Days of Christmas Biscuit Tin

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Biscuits for grown-ups, especially at Christmas become more of a special gift than just a snack. The Biskery have brought out a perfect Advent Calendar for the 12 Days of Christmas with their handmade biscuits as affirmations in a reusable biscuit tin. They’ve sent us a sample to try before Christmas gets started and we couldn’t wait to try them!

The delicious tin contains 11 biscuits with affirmations on them, separated by rice paper with the 12 Days of Christmas written on them, and a 12th biscuit with “Merry Xmas.” The biscuits are jam filled with a cut-out on each of them, much like Jammie Dodgers but with handmade vanilla biscuits. The crisp biscuits are fragrant, crunchy and filling like a biscuit should be but as they are freshly made at the Biskery HQ, they’re that special kind of crumbly that you only get with bakery biscuits that haven’t got any additives or preservatives in them.

With free postage within the UK, you can send them as a gift at short notice.  Although children will love the biscuits, adults appreciate the affirmations too and the home-baked quality of the jam filled cookies. There’s a free gift note included as well and the tin will live on long after the biscuits are gone. I think these could be used as excellent after dinner treats at Christmas time, as a treat for teachers or even as the cookie left for Father Christmas on Christmas Eve…

Siprano Non-Alcoholic Wine

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Today, there are not only a lot more choices available to us for alcohol but non-alcoholic drinks are also becoming increasingly popular, and much better than they used to be.

Siprano was born out of owner Anna-Louise’s sobriety and an opportunity she found to create wines that were non-alcoholic but tasted as good as the real thing.  There are a surprisingly large demographic of buyers who don’t want or can’t drink alcohol, and those, like me, who just don’t like the taste. Ultimately, the non-alcoholic market is much larger than the drinker’s market and has more longevity, so Anna-Louise has hit the nail on the head with her idea, and especially in time for Christmas.

Anna-Louise sent me a bottle of each of my favourite wines; a Riesling white wine called The Very Cautious One and a Rosé called Darling Cellars Grenache. Both are alcohol free and refreshingly, also vegan so anyone can drink these!

The Very Cautious One was our first to open. A dry wine, it is typically Riesling flavour with Australian grapes.  Not a tough drink at all, it has sharp tones but a slightly fruity taste which develops with time. It feels like a wine but perhaps not the same Riesling flavour as the alcoholic version but still refreshing and easy to drink either on its own or as part of a meal.  It’s light-medium bodies so you can drink more of it than you might imagine.

The DC Rosé is made with 98% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Grenache from South Africa and has distinct delicacy to it with a fruity sweetness.  This is a great pairing with a pasta meal or after dinner and is very drinkable.  This tastes more like its alcoholic rosé cousin and goes down well on its own or with a meal, and even a snack in the evening.  Particularly good sharing with a group of friends where you can forget that it’s not alcoholic and enjoy it anyway!

Siprano has an online quiz on their website to help you choose which wine is best for you, with a subscription of 1-4 bottles per week delivered to your door. Their gift idea also works perfectly as a gift for someone to receive a bottle per month for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. Nothing stopping you having your own subscription for the next 12 months too, and with it being non-alcoholic wine, it won’t be the alcohol preventing you opening a bottle as often as you like.

www.Siprano.co.uk have a new website which they’re eager to show off, so have a look and see if the quiz, or any of their evolving products take your fancy.

Helly Hansen Verglas Warm Running Tights

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

As autumn sets in and the mornings turn colder, it’s time to swap my running shorts for running tights so I was really pleased when Helly Hansen sent me a pair of their Verglas Warm Running Tights to try.

The tights come in three different colours—hickory, ocean, and black and I opted for the ocean shade since I often wear blue tops, plus the darker colour hides mud and dirt well!

When I first put them on, I immediately noticed how comfortable they were. The fit was excellent, with an adjustable, flat-front waistband that’s both flattering and, most importantly, doesn’t dig into my waist while running or walking. The stitching is smooth and flat so there was no rubbing or chafing, even on longer runs. I’ve worn them for hiking as well as trail running and the 4-way stretch means there is plenty of movement in the fabric, making them ideal for all outdoor activities.

We all know Autumn weather can be unpredictable, with sudden rain showers, strong winds, and chilly weather all too common.  These tights are fleece-lined so they keep my legs lovely and warm now the temperature has started to drop. The tights also feature a handy back zipped pocket, it’s not particularly large but I can get my phone in it or if your phone is too large you could use it to safely store your keys. The tights are machine washable at 30°C, and after a few washes, they’ve held up well, drying quickly both indoors and outdoors. The fact that they dry quickly makes them  great for travelling since you can rinse them out in the evening and they’ll be dry by the next morning.

Available in sizes XS to XL, I was very impressed with the length of the tights. At 6′ tall, I often find leggings a bit short, but these reached my ankles perfectly. The sizing was also spot on, I ordered my usual size, and they fit like a glove.

The Helly Hansen Verglas Running Tights have quickly become my go-to choice for all outdoor activities, they’re perfect for running and walking and they’ll keep my legs warm as the temperature drops.

RRP £70.

Helly Hansen Crew Insulator Jacket

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

As autumn approaches and the days grow shorter, the crisp morning air signals it’s time to bring out the layers again. A lightweight insulated jacket, like the Helly Hansen Crew Insulator Jacket, becomes essential at this time of year, offering warmth without bulk. With the unpredictable British weather, conditions can change quickly so having a warm lightweight jacket, that doesn’t take up much room in my rucksack is very important when I’m going out hiking.

For early autumn hikes, when there’s still some warmth from the sun, this jacket is perfect to throw on over a t-shirt to keep the breeze at bay. On colder days, it works well as a standalone top layer over a base layer or fleece. It’s also useful as an insulating layer beneath my waterproof coat, making it an excellent choice for the ever-changing weather of the season. Whether you wear it as a top layer or under a shell, this jacket is designed to handle the varied conditions that autumn throws at you.

As someone who’s 6′ tall with long arms, I often have trouble finding a jacket that fits comfortably. I typically go for men’s coats to ensure the sleeves and body are long enough, and I’m thrilled with the fit of this one. It provides the length and room I need without feeling bulky, offering a tailored fit that allows for easy movement, perfect for women like me who need extra length but still want a flattering fit.

In terms of functionality, the jacket comes with two zipped hand pockets and a convenient zipped chest pocket, ideal for keeping essentials like your phone or keys within easy reach. Made with PrimaLoft® Black insulation, it’s lightweight and packable, yet warm enough to handle the chillier mornings that autumn brings.

This jacket really ticks all the boxes for autumn adventures. Its tailored fit, especially for those who need more sleeve length, combined with durable fabric makes it a fantastic choice for any outdoor activity. As we move into autumn, with its cooler and unpredictable weather, this jacket offers the perfect combination of warmth and versatility.

Available in five different colours, the jacket is priced at £150.

Freshwater Pearl Necklace by Created By Carol

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

This one is for the jewellery lovers who love the water, especially freshwater pearls. Created by Carol is a one-woman business in designing and making silver jewellery, based in Yorkshire UK.  Carol is a self-proclaiming pearl enthusiast and has won various TV competitions for her design and production of jewellery. Using real silver in the form of antique cutlery, buttons and anything else she can find, Carol is an advocate for those with disabilities and teaches metalworking, pearl knotting and stone setting. When she’s not working (which sounds like a lot of the time!) she’s repairing sentimental jewellery at her local repair shop.

Her website, Created by Carol, is a treasure trove of what you can buy an all of it unique. From spoons and buttons made into jewellery items or refashioned using their unique patterns, Carol has created a library of silver jewellery which you won’t find anywhere else.  Her love of pearls is also evident in the great body of work she has which includes rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces. We were sent this absolutely gorgeous handmade solitaire pearl necklace to review, but you can see from her website that there is a whole host of jewellery for you to discover.

Pearls have been harvested long back in history, even in Roman times but especially for monarchs throughout time, and mentioned in the Bible. For anyone who works with chakras, the pearl is especially meaningful with the third eye due to its association with balance and wisdom and wearing it at your throat chakra (or heart chakra depending on the length of the necklace chain) can bring purity and diving feminine wisdom too. In fact, there are a lot of lovely properties of pearls that make them great gifts.

This timeless freshwater pearl necklace comes on a chain, ready to wear. You can see it’s a natural, freshwater pearl because of the slightly irregular shape and texture of it, but the iridescent reflective surface reminds you that it’s real and totally wearable with anything.  It’s exceptionally well made by Carol, as you’d imagine, with absolute precision and sympathetic to the beauty of the pearl. You don’t need more than just one pearl to make the statement as I found out as soon as I put it on! The silver fine chain and bar will never date and once you wear it, it’s so addictive to add more to your collection and have matching sets. The slight difference in pearl colour, sizes and textures make it almost a hobby in itself to hunt down the next piece for your collection.

In fact, you can’t go wrong with a pearl for a gift, and I am loving my first ever freshwater pearl necklace!

Vegamour GRO+ Advanced System Haircare

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

The Vegamour GRO+ Advance System is a haircare group of products by Vegamour which promote hair growth in the long term, and give you thicker, more manageable hair.  We were sent a set of the GRO+ Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner and the GRO+ Advanced Hair Serum to try out.

When haircare companies send us products to test, it normally takes a few weeks or even months for us to see a difference, but with the GRO+ Advanced System Shampoo and Conditioner, I saw results immediately. I mean, as soon as my hair was dry I noticed that it was fuller and thicker, so there must be some magic here or else it really does work!

The shampoo and conditioner work exactly the same way as any other product, and on their own especially over time they build up the hair to create fuller locks.  I’ve used the products in combination 3 times now and not only on the first use but on the subsequent uses I’ve seen how it builds up my hair. Over time it should help with regrowth too. My hair wasn’t heavy though, as if there was a lot of product in it and I had to think back the first time I used GRO+ to make sure I hadn’t used any kind of mousse or finishing creams to give it the fuller look. I hadn’t, but the shampoo and conditioner on their own has give the fuller body that post-drying leave in conditioners or treatments usually do. I noticed that when my hair just had the GRO+ shampoo and conditioner used on it and no other styling products, my hair wasn’t greasy and didn’t get dirty as quickly either so there was no build-up of products to deal with.

hair loss serum

With this instant affect in mind, I used the GRO+ Serum to see if that would work.  The serum is a really light, almost watery consistency which is easy to apply.  You just add drops to your scalp, anywhere your hair might be thinning, and then massage in. It is best applied daily (although I didn’t apply daily to start with) and can be used on wet or dry hair.  Over time, the serum encourages hair follicles to grow and created thicker hair. I haven’t been trying it for the recommended 120 days yet but based on the success of the GRO+ Shampoo & Conditioner I’m very hopeful! The serum isn’t sticky at all and it actually conditions the root of the hair too so it gives a bit of nourishment. It’s vegan and has no silicones either so washes out easily.

I’m really impressed with the GRO+ Advanced range that I’ve seen so far, and although it’s pricy, it’s still cheaper than the medicated alternatives and the worry of losing or thinning hair which we know exasperates the problem! Even if your hair isn’t thinning, this is a great preventative measure and everyone loves a fuller look to their hair. I’m going to keep using this for as long as possible to see the results and hopefully completely transform my hair.  Even better, it’s made with a vegan formula so anyone can use it.

Helly Hansen Women’s Trail Wizard Running Shoes

Disclaimer: we received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own

When it comes to running, your choice of shoes can have a significant impact on your performance, comfort, and safety. While standard running shoes are designed for pavement or treadmill use, trail running shoes are built to tackle the challenges of rough, unstable terrain. With their deeper tread, they provide superior grip on soft, muddy trails and dirt tracks, making them the ideal choice for off-road adventures. Helly Hansen have a great selection of trail running shoes and I have thoroughly enjoyed putting the Women’s Trail Wizard running shoes to the test this summer.

The shoes feature Helly Hansen’s HH Quick Dry and HH Max-Vent technology, which ensures excellent breathability and keeps your feet dry while running. The efficient ventilation system allows for plenty of airflow, preventing overheating and moisture buildup and whether I’ve been navigating steep inclines or muddy trails, these shoes have kept my feet comfortable and dry throughout the entire run.

Weighing just 260g these shoes are remarkably lightweight, making them a pleasure to run in. The HH Max-Comfort Insole offers a springy, cushioned feel that’s perfect for both short sprints and long-distance runs. The insole adapts to your stride, providing consistent comfort whether you’re on a quick morning jog through the woods or a longer trek across varied terrain. The non-marking rubber soles deliver excellent traction, making these shoes versatile enough to handle a variety of surfaces, from rocky paths to slippery coastal trails.

In addition to their high-performance features, these trail running shoes are a great choice for eco-conscious runners. With over 70% of the upper made from recycled materials, Helly Hansen showcases a strong commitment to sustainability. This eco-friendly design doesn’t compromise the quality or durability of the shoes, offering an environmentally responsible option for runners who prioritize both performance and reduced environmental impact.

I’m genuinely impressed with these trail running shoes – they’re comfortable to wear and perfectly suited for tackling tough, unstable terrain. Their lightweight design ensures they don’t feel clunky or heavy, while the springy HH Max-Comfort Insole provides lasting comfort for any distance. Helly Hansen Men’s Brono Softshell Zip Off Pants

Disclaimer; We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own

We’re all familiar with the unpredictable nature of British weather, which makes having adaptable clothing a must for outdoor activities. The Helly Hansen Men’s Brono Softshell Zip-Off Pants have been my go-to walking trousers this this summer with the zip off legs being ideal for those typical British days which can be quite chilly to begin with but end up with unexpected sunshine (in between the showers!) The zips enable a quick and hassle-free switch, ensuring you’re always prepared for the weather.

Made from 4-way stretch softshell fabric, these trousers offer both flexibility and comfort. They are incredibly comfortable to wear and pack down small, making them ideal for backpacking and travelling when space is at a premium. The lightweight fabric is treated with Durable Water Repellency (DWR), allowing it to withstand light showers and it dry quickly when you get caught in a sudden downpour – particularly useful in the UK, where surprise rain showers are all too common.

In terms of design, the articulated knees and gusseted crotch provide excellent mobility, letting you move freely whether you’re scrambling up hills or navigating rocky terrain. Their smart design also makes them versatile enough to wear out and about, and once the legs are zipped off you have a pair of reasonably stylish shorts.

Practicality is another strong point. With two hip pockets and a zipped pocket on the thigh, you have ample secure storage for essentials like your phone, keys, and the all important emergency snack. The fit is true to size, and the inclusion of belt loops allows for an even better fit if needed.

The Helly Hansen Men’s Brono Softshell Zip-Off Pants are an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities. Their versatile design, durable fabric, and zip off legs make them perfect for tackling whatever the British weather throws at you. Swan Slow Cooker

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Take note, winter, we are ready for you!  As the evenings draw on it’s time for a different kind of dinner and those in the know use a slow cooker.  It’s not just that you can cook food for longer and get a better texture to meat and vegetables, but if you time the slow cooking properly, you can either come in from work or when you are out of the evening and the whole house smells amazing, plus dinner is ready! Swan have sent us a slow cooker from their Nordic Range to try out, and we couldn’t wait.

If you’ve never used a slow cooker before then it’s great for beginners.  There’s a ceramic bowl in the middle, a lid on top (to keep the heat and the steam in) and it’s all surrounded by the slow cooker itself which heats the whole ceramic pot to one of 3 temperatures; low, high or on auto. With the ceramic pot in place, add the food (more on that later) and anything else like vegetables, herbs, spices etc and the lid as well. If you don’t add the lid then the pot and therefore the food doesn’t heat up enough to cook.  You’ll notice that the lid isn’t the best fit. This is to allow tiny gaps for the steam to escape. Once the food is cooked, you can lift the ceramic bowl from the cooker or as I do, I just take the food out and let the rest of the cooker cool down before I wash it up.

What are the temperature settings?

Low Setting – this is typically around 75C-80C and is great for vegetables or reheating. Food rarely burns at this temperature so if you’re not sure how long you’re going to be out for, this is your safest bet. If you do cook meat at this setting though, you’ll need to brown it off first.

High Setting – everything else is cooked at this temperature, which is around 85C-90C and therefore there can be times when there is a touch of boiling, and the steam will need to escape.  This temperature is great for baking and for meats.

Auto Setting – this is a great alternative to both previous setting as it starts cooking on the higher temperature, then switches to low for the remained of the cooking time.

What about the timing though? Slow cookers don’t have timers on them, they’re designed to cook food slowly over 6-9 hours. The secret to cooking the food well is learning about the timings needed. Like with all new ovens, you have to learn how it works to be able to judge what time you need, but as a general rule, if something takes 15-30 minutes to cook then try it on 4-6 hours on low.  If the traditional cooking time is 60 minutes, then 6-8 hours on low or auto setting.

When it comes to adding food, you can prepare it in the ceramic pot the night before, store in the fridge then transfer to the slow cooker the next day and start cooking. Alternatively, preparing dinner around lunchtime and throwing in all your favourite vegetables with whichever meat you choose, you can create a masterpiece with whatever you have in the fridge. You don’t need to stir the food and lifting the slow cooker lid means the whole cooker loses temperature and puts back the cooking time.  What you do need though, is some kind of liquid. It’s usually half of what you would use in a traditional recipe though, but it really helps the cooking if you have some kind of sauce, gravy or stock with the meat.  It’s at this point that you can add the spices and herbs that add all the flavour to the meat you’re cooking.

Using the Swan Slow Cooker couldn’t be easier and it’s great for anyone who is new to cooking, students or if you’re busy with family life. It’s an alternative to the oven, air fryer or BBQ too, giving a different texture and a different flavour to anything you cook. There’s only 1 control on the front with the temperature settings and as long as you can plug it into electricity, there isn’t much else needed. When we were young, my Mum used to take a slow cooker on holiday with us in our caravan and it was fabulous coming in from a day out and being able to eat straight away.  Like with a BBQ, the same food cooks differently than in an oven so you get a completely different experience.

I’ve loved experimenting with the Swan Slow Cooker and trying out beef, stew, sausages and even baking.  There’s so much you can use it for, that’s half the fun!

Saabuni Illuminating Saffron Serum

Disclaimer: we received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

I’m always on the hunt for skincare products that enhance my complexion, so I was thrilled to try the Illuminating Saffron Serum from Saabuni. This natural, cruelty-free facial oil features a potent blend of Saffron, Liquorice, Indian Madder, and Banyan Tree extracts, designed to visibly firm the skin and leave it glowing with youthful radiance.

Saabuni’s story is as captivating as their products. The brand was founded by Naseema, who was inspired by her grandmother’s tradition of making soaps, creams, and hair oils from flowers and spices. Drawing on the rich tradition of Ayurveda, Naseema now crafts her own skincare products using these cherished recipes, with a deep passion for natural beauty. Each product is carefully handcrafted using only the finest ingredients which truly benefit the skin.

The star of this serum, Saffron, is well-known for its brightening properties, helping you achieve a stunning summer glow without the need for excessive sun exposure. Liquorice and Indian Madder work together to firm and tighten the skin, while Banyan Tree extracts add a youthful vibrance.

The facial oil is lightweight and absorbs nicely into my skin without leaving it feeling greasy. I’ve been using it at night time as it’s an excellent alternative to heavier night creams, providing a lighter, more natural feel on the skin.

I’ve been using this serum for a month and I can genuinely say that my skin feels incredible – hydrated, softer, firmer, and noticeably more radiant. The transformation is undeniable, with a significant improvement in texture and overall glow. Gone are the days of dealing with dry skin on my face, this product has effectively addressed that concern and my menopausal skin is looking a lot better than it was a few weeks ago.

Swan Retro DAB Radio

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

For those who are difficult to buy for, function and style are two aspects which are really appreciated and the Swan Retro SRA43010 DAB radio has both.

As a DAB Bluetooth radio, there are 20 pre-set stations available on this model with 10 available on DAB and 10 available for FM radio. It also connects by Bluetooth and has a headphone jack in the back and can be powered by a 5V electric cable (which is provided) or 4x AA batteries.  The buttons on the top are easy to use and helpfully labelled so you can work out how to turn it on and use it without having to worry about reading the instructions! There’s a dial for volume and it doubles up for the select/snooze/play/pause too. Don’t forget that this has an aerial – it is retro after all!

When operating for the first time, you need to add AA batteries (not provided) or I prefer using the adaptor which is provided and makes it easier to use as you don’t need to change the batteries every so often. It does depend on where you want to use it though as taking it on a camping trip obviously means you have to use batteries but if this is at home, you can use either power method, which is a huge plus when it’s a gift too.

When you turn it on with the Power button, as this is a digital radio it will automatically find the signal and set the date and time for you. The radio scans for you to find all the available stations in your area and tells you how many stations it’s found. Unlike analogue radios, it will start playing the alphabetically first station on the list, so not necessarily the first one on the dial like other radios would.  To find another station, click the +/- buttons to cycle through the available DAB stations then press the dial to fine tune to radio into the station shown on the display. There are options to do a full, detailed DAB scan which will erase all the stored stations but you can also manually tune to a station of your choice.

Some of the nifty features of the Swan DAB radio include DRC or Dynamic Range Compression. This is something that some DAB stations use which enables the audio to be amplified if they are lower or raising if they are quieter such as if the signal isn’t so strong or there is a variety of noise levels throughout. There’s also the FM function which allows you to change from DAB to FM radio to get the stations which aren’t yet digital. If you really need to, you can use the manual tuning into the FM station instead of the scan function, so there are choices there for you to be able to find whichever station you need.  The Bluetooth mode automatically pairs to a device such as your phone when you’re out and about. Perfect for when you don’t want to listen to the radio and bring your own playlist instead!

There are other fun gadgets on the Swan DAB Retro Radio such as an alarm, a Time Out (to set the duration of play before it cuts out) various ways of dimming the display if you don’t want to see what it says or have less light pollution.  There is a sound equaliser as well and different settings such as classic, jazz, pop and speech.  The sound quality is excellent and really puts the old analogue radios to shame with how sharp they are and how good the signal is, which is invaluable when you live in an area that doesn’t get a great radio signal.

The Swan DAB Retro Radio is great for anyone who loves the radio, or just as a functioning digital radio at home or on the move.  Children will love this as it has all the gadgets on it which allows them to reach any kind of station and they can even use it as an alarm to wake up to every morning. Older generations will enjoy the retro aspect, or if you’re design conscious and like the ‘old fashioned’ look at home, this fits right in!  It’s the perfect gift for someone who has everything!

ZZ Wipes

Disclaimer: We received the wipes for the purpose of this review but all words and opinions are our own.

If you’re seeking a practical and refreshing solution for staying clean while on the move, ZZWipes individually wrapped mint-scented wipes are a true game-changer. Perfect for camping, travelling, or a quick refresh after a kick around with friends, these wipes are an essential companion to keep you feeling fresh and confident all day long.

The individually wrapped packs are small, discreet, and can be easily slipped into a pocket or wallet, making them incredibly convenient to carry around with you. They are especially handy when space is limited, I can already see them being indispensable on my next backpacking and cycling trips.

The wipes have a minty, refreshing fragrance that leaves you feeling revitalised and clean. The scent is subtle yet effective, providing that extra boost of freshness exactly when you need it. The alcohol free wipes are also designed to be gentle on the skin, which is great news for those with sensitive skin. While they obviously don’t replace a shower or bath, they’re an excellent alternative when you don’t have access to one and I was pleasantly surprised by just how effective they are, leaving me feeling fresh and clean after using a single wipe.

The wipes are reasonably thick, strong, and durable enough to wipe away sweat and grime without tearing. I was impressed by how long they stayed damp, and found a single wipe was sufficient for a quick refresh after exercise or a few hours on a train. My skin dried quickly afterward with no sticky residue, and the minty fragrance was quite invigorating.

These wipes are a must-have for any man who values convenience, cleanliness, and a touch of minty freshness on the go. Whether you’re roughing it in the wilderness or navigating the urban jungle, make sure you have some ZZWipes in your pocket!

A pack of 30 wipes costs £10 and is available from ZZ Wipes

Orchard Toys Games

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

We absolutely love Orchard Toys jigsaws and games, the bright, chunky pieces and easy-to-play games are not just entertaining but educational too. They have been making games for over 50 years, earning a well-deserved reputation for quality and durability and their products are designed to withstand the wear and tear of little hands while also encouraging learning.

With this summer’s unpredictable weather, we’ve found ourselves playing a lot of board games, so I was really pleased to receive a selection of their games, especially as the children (and me!!) were becoming a little tired of playing the same games over and over again.

Dotty Dinosaurs (RRP £12) is a fun dinosaur themed game which promotes colour and shape recognition along with fine motor skills. The game features double-sided dinosaur boards – on one side, players match shapes, and on the other, they match coloured spots. With three different ways to play, children roll either the shape or coloured dice (or both in game three) and race to cover their dinosaur board with the correct pieces. The beautifully illustrated dinosaurs also encourage children to learn about different species, we talked about where they live, and what they eat and how scary they were!

Buzz Words (RRP £9.75) is ideal for children aged 5 and up. This fast-paced game helps with spelling and letter recognition in a fun, low-pressure environment. With four different games to play—Race to Spell, Grab the Word, Pick a Pair, and Make a Match, children are continuously learning valuable skills while having fun. Our favourite was Race to Spell, where players race against the clock to spell the word on their picture. The game offers three, four, and five-letter words, allowing you to tailor the difficulty to your child’s ability. Even young children who can’t yet spell aren’t at a disadvantage as they can simply match the letters to the pictures. Our little reviewer particularly enjoyed this game, happily matching letters and even practicing spelling on their own. The letters can also be used to spell out new words or to help children learn to spell their own names, which our reviewers loved as well.

Jigsaws are another fantastic way to develop hand-eye coordination. The Giant Alphabet Extra Long Jigsaw Puzzle (RRP £11.25) not only aids in learning the alphabet but also features large, chunky pieces for each letter. The puzzle includes cut-out letters to match with the jigsaw, making it an ideal tool for helping children recognize letters and develop a love for puzzles. Each letter features several illustrations beginning with that letter, and the accompanying learning guide is packed with discussion points to encourage learning. While completing the puzzle, the children talked about the different animals, where they live, and what they like to eat and it was quite interesting hearing some of the things that they thought dinosaurs ate and where the rocket was heading to next!

One of the greatest benefits of board games is the quality family time they create. We’re in an age when screens often dominate our lives and board games offer a tech-free experience for the whole family. For preschoolers and children in early primary years, play is one of the most effective learning tool and board games are especially valuable as they can teach a range of essential skills. Games that involve counting, colours, shapes, letters and numbers can help reinforce what children are learning or about to learn in school and are a fun way to learn these essential skills. Orchard Toys offer such a wide variety of games that there’s bound to be something to suit every child’s interest. From animal-themed games to word and number puzzles, we’ve never been disappointed by any of their games.

Sauce up your sandwich with new limited flavours from Walkers and Heinz

Disclaimer: We received these crisps free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Have you ever tried a crisp sandwich? The blend of texture, flavour, and nostalgia makes it a snack that connects with people on many levels. It’s a great example of how food can be fun, comforting, and delicious, even when it’s as simple as two slices of bread and a handful of crisps. And now, it’s even easier to enjoy thanks to Walkers, who recently teamed up with Heinz to create three sandwich-inspired limited edition crisps: Sausage Sarnie with Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Cheese Toastie with Heinz Beanz, and Roast Chicken with Heinz Mayonnaise.

Of the three, the Sausage Sarnie crisps are my favourite. The meaty sausage flavour shines through, perfectly complemented by the tangy tomato sauce, making it the best crisp sandwich I’ve had in a long time!

So, next time you’re craving a snack, consider reaching for a crisp sandwich. You might just discover that this humble creation satisfies your cravings in unexpected ways.

All three flavours are available in supermarkets but you’ll have to be quick as they won’t be around for long.

Fearne & Rosie Jam

Disclaimer: We received these products free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Jam is a timeless kitchen staple that adds a fruity burst to any meal. Whether spread on toast or crumpets, eaten on a scone (jam or cream first??) or used in baking, the right jam can truly elevate your food. Over the years, I’ve sampled many jams and noticed a significant difference in quality across brands. Supermarkets offer a range of options, from budget-friendly ‘essentials’ to premium ‘finest’ selections, alongside various branded jams and after sampling a selection of jams from newcomer Fearne & Rosie I can honestly say that their jams are now a firm favourite with my family. Their fruity jams not only taste delicious but with 40% less sugar than standard jams are much healthier choice too.

Launched in November 2019 by Rachel, a passionate advocate for healthier eating, Fearne & Rosie Jam comes from the scenic hills of Yorkshire. Named after her daughters, this brand reflects Rachel’s commitment to creating products that are both wholesome and packed full of flavour. The range includes classic flavours, raspberry, strawberry, and blackcurrant as well as cherry and strawberry super berry jam and what really distinguishes Fearne & Rosie jam from other brands is its high fruit content. With around 70% fruit, these jams offer a rich, authentic taste that outshines typical jams. The natural sweetness and vibrant fruit flavours take centre stage, providing a fresher, more intense experience with every bite. The texture is slightly different to standard jams, resembling crushed fruit rather than the more solid consistency common in other jams. This makes it perfect not only for spreading but also for enhancing a variety of dishes, from breakfast to desserts.

Fearne & Rosie Jam isn’t just about great flavour, with it’s low sugar content it’s also a healthier option for families looking to reduce their sugar intake without compromising on taste. With 40% less sugar than standard jams, it’s a smarter choice for those who want to enjoy the sweet things in life while maintaining a balanced diet.

With its high fruit content and reduced sugar, it offers a delightful way to savour the natural taste of fruit while supporting a brand that genuinely cares about family well-being. Once you try it, you’ll see why Fearne & Rosie is quickly becoming a favourite in homes everywhere.

Beef Brisket at Smith’s Bar and Grill, Paddington

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Paddington in London is more than just the Bear we all love… the whole area along the canal has been transformed in recent years to be a vibrant, social place with lots going on. One of the inhabitants there is Smith’s Bar & Grill, right on the canal and a stone’s throw from Paddington Station.

Mondays are Beef Brisket day at Smith’s Bar & Grill. That means £40 for a whole sharing platter (for 2) of tender beef, corn on the cob, macaroni cheese, sweet potato fries and gherkins, along with a couple of sauces to go with the mix.  The offer is only available on Mondays so we went along for a taste and to see what else they had on offer!

Smith’s Bar & Grill is on the canal but has both indoor and outdoor seating. If you’ve ever walked to Little Venice, you’ve probably walked past Smith’s and not realised – I know I did recently. Their menu is a mix of Italian, seafood and grill with an impressive salad menu too.  We chose the Beef Brisket but started with Burrata and Salmon Tartare.

The delicious Burrata was served with an olive oil dressing and red and yellow cherry tomatoes. It’s a generous size serving too and absolutely divine, especially if you’re a cheese lover.  The Salmon Tartare is smoked salmon served on a bed of avocado, with a lemon dressing. The salmon is just right; light and well dressed and the avocado is creamy and soft to go with the lemon dressed salmon.

The Beef Brisket (which we had both been waiting for!) came out on a giant wooden platter, complete with beef pieces dressed in a BBQ sauce an accompanied by macaroni cheese, sweet potato fries and gherkins. There’s also pesto and BBQ sauce dips to accompany as well.   The beef is cooked then cut so there are some pieces which are well done with the majority of the joint being medium rare, so there’s a choice for both of you who are sharing. There’s ample there to be able to get enough food for only £20 a head, and I liked how there was enough vegetables to give you a whole meal as well as a huge helping of beef.

To top off the meal, we had Tiramisu and Chocolate Fondant, which is served with vanilla ice cream.  Going with the Italian theme, the Tiramisu is incredibly light but also very velvety and has a delicious hit of coffee with it.  The Chocolate Fondant is also very well baked with the gooey chocolate filling and a beautiful vanilla ice cream on the side. Served warm, it gushes chocolate from the centre when you cut into it and is again a good size portion.

We came for the Beef Brisket (which is only available on Mondays after midday but Smith’s Bar & Grill also has half price premium wines) but there were so many other choices on the menu that we had to choose more.  The Italian theme is not all they do – there’s steaks and a great range of seafood as well and plenty to choose from all round. We really enjoyed the Beef Brisket, which is a brilliant idea to get people out on a Monday and enjoying the Paddington area and what the canal has to offer. The atmosphere, even with a few people on what was a miserable afternoon weather-wise, was just as enjoyable.  I wonder what they’re going to do for Christmas?

Beef Brisket is available Mondays only, 12:00 until closing and is available for £40 for two to share.  Desserts and starters are additional.

RuRu Cosmetics False Eye Lashes and Brow Gel

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

We’re holding onto summer here and enjoying this late heatwave that has everyone out at festivals, BBQs and the beautiful outdoor bars and restaurants that have become a part of British culture since the sun has been shining. Ruru Cosmetics sent us some reusable false eye lashes (and a bonus brow gel!) to keep us looking gorgeous all summer long and with a bit of practice, we have been trying them!

We were sent; Ruru Cosmetics False Lashes (Sunny, Ocean and Cindy) at £3.25 each, Ruru Cosmetics Olive and Alice (£7.99 each) and Luna (£3.25). We also received the Ruru Cosmetics Lash Adhesive (£6.49) and Ruru Cosmetics Brow Gel (£9.99).  Obviously the Lash Adhesive is needed to fix the lashes but the Brow Gel is great for fixing your brows just how you want them and complimenting any of the lashes you use at the same time.

I have never used false eye lashes before, neither removeable ones you fix yourself nor the kind of lashes you go to a salon and have done. It’s intrigued me though and looks like a fun way to dress up when you go out!  I started with Olive from the Ruru Cosmetics Faux Collection. The Faux Collection range can be used up to 30 times and come in their own box which can be used to keep each pair between the times you use it.  After looking online at the free download from Ruru Cosmetics on how to use the eye lashes and using the Lash Adhesive that Ruru Cosmetics sent me, I found some tweezers and got to work!

To remove the eye lashes, I teased them out of the case, being careful not to stretch them out of shape. Then using the Lash Adhesive, you only need to dab a little along the lash band, but right up to the ends so that they stick firmly. Using the tweezers, attach the false lashes as close to your own lashes as possible, and dab them down. Once they are dry, you can add mascara if you wish.  To remove, use the tweezers at the far corners of the eye and pull away, tracing the line of your natural eye lashes so as not to stretch them again, and replace them back on the casing to use next time.

It does take a bit of practice but eventually you get the hang of it!

They look very dramatic at first, but I did like the shape of them and how natural they look. These are brilliant for going out or for replacing your own lashes if they aren’t as full as you’d like, and with the range available on the Ruru Cosmetics website, you’ll find something that suits you.  The only point I would recommend is that you practice putting them on before you are in a hurry to go out, but as the pairs can be worn up to 30 times, you’ll have plenty of chances to wear them again!

Fruit Snacks from Whitworths

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

It’s back to school in a few weeks and the dreaded lunchbox needs filling! Whitworths has some lovely snack ideas of dried fruits, perfect for the lunchbox, after school or for yourself at any time!

The Whitworths Sunny Raisins come in a pack of 6, each of 42.5 grams. One pack counts towards your child’s 5-a-day quota for fruit and vegetables so this is a brilliant way of getting nutrition into them especially as raisins are so tasty which is always the challenge with children’s food. These Whitworths raisins aren’t dried up at all, but have a very sweet taste and juicy too. One pack is enough for me to have with a sandwich at lunchtime and makes it feel like I’ve had something sweet instead of a chocolate bar or cake!

Whitworths also have the Sunny Snacks of Fruit Mix-Ups; Strawberries & Sultanas and Apricots & Mango. The packs are smaller at 18 grams each so don’t fill you up as much but they do give a hit of dried fruit.  The Apricots & Mango have no added sugar, but both are very sweet without anything added. The tiny pieces make these good for cooking too if you’re adding dried fruit to a cake mix or for tiny hands to decorate cupcakes with you in the kitchen. These are great snacks for a lunchbox or taking on days out as they’re easily transported too and it doesn’t matter if they get hot.

The second sunny Fruit Mix-Ups flavour is Strawberries & Sultanas. These are no added sugar too and have loads of flavour. The dried strawberries are particularly tasty as you get the burst of strawberry flavour as you bite into them, then the texture of all the seeds!  These are great for toddlers and smaller children who don’t like fruit as they’re super sweet but without the sugar.

It’s never been easier to get more healthy options into children’s diets with snacks like Whitworths’ Sunny Fruit Mix-Ups and Sunny Raisins, but always a good idea to test them yourself before they go back to school…

Dole Kids Jellies

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

When I’m packing my children’s lunchboxes it’s a fine line between what the children want to eat and what they need to eat! Whilst it’s nice to include a sweet treat, it is important that they eat healthy and nutritious food too. When preparing lunchboxes, it is important to strike the right food balance, to ensure that they will eat enough to receive all the nutrients they need to help them stay energised and focused through the day. Snacks are an important part of lunchboxes and choosing the right ones can make a huge difference in overall nutrition.

One of the newest additions to my children’s lunchboxes is the Dole Kids Jellies, the  fruity jellies are an excellent way to add a healthy, fun snack to my children’s lunches. Available in two different flavours, Orange Jelly with Mixed Fruit and Strawberry Jelly with Mixed Fruit they are made with 100% real fruit juice, making them a healthier alternative to the many sugar laden snacks that are currently available. Not only does the jelly taste fruity, it also contains real fruit pieces, adding a burst of natural flavour and texture. The fruit pieces contribute to the jelly’s overall nutritional value providing fibre and natural vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C.

The Dole Kids Jellies come in handy sized pots with a fun characters on the packaging which our min reviewers loved. The pots are the perfect size for a lunchbox and make a great lunchtime treat.

At £1.79 for a pack of 4, Dole Kids Jelly is not only a healthy choice but an affordable one too.

Alba Leather Belt from Pampeano

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

It’s always difficult to know what to get someone for Christmas, but when it comes to luxury goods and something that’s functional, a beautiful leather belt can’t miss.

Pampeano, the Argentinian crafted leather company, have a range of gifts from belts to dog collars, bags, wallets, keyrings and bracelets. They sent us this beautiful leather belt in the Alba style, complete in a gift box as well so that you can wrap it or send it easily!

The belt is decorated by Argentinian craft workers by hand in the polo design that Pampeano is famous for.  The Alba design is inspired by the incredible sunrises over the pampas of Argentina. The Alba design incorporates navy jean, sky blue, light blue, cream, light orange and bright orange in a continuous pattern around the belt with a gorgeous brass buckle and Pampeano logo embossed on it too. The belt can be worn by men or women, with the bright colours able to match any outfit but I like wearing Pampeano belts with jeans to add a bit of cheerfulness to otherwise plain trousers.

I really like the quality of the Pampeano belt too. The leather is well crafted and there’s no faults in the stitching or the embroidered design nor do the threats or edges of the leather wear away easily.  The buckle is also hard wearing and beautifully crafted. There’s the option when you purchase the belt to have it personalised with a blind emboss of up to 3 characters – so the initials of someone you love, which makes it a perfect gift for Christmas.  If you’re not familiar with the whole range of Pampeano gifts, have a look online or choose a different pattern belt – there’s plenty to choose from!

Multi Dog Collar from Pampeano

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

With the approach of Christmas, most of us with pets turn our attention to showering them with love during the festive season, and Pampeano has the ultimate solution with this luxury leather dog collar.

The Multi is the most popular style of belt in the Pampeano range, so it’s only natural that they make the same style, and quality, available for your pooch as well! Made with Argentinian leather and crafted in the heart of Argentina it is fashioned with red, cream, light blue, navy and racing green colours.  The sturdy buckle also takes the weight of a lead, and if you’re feeling co-ordinated, Pampeano also have the Multi design leather lead to compliment this dog collar!

The Pampeano dog collar is available in sizes from XXS (for dogs such as Chihuahuas) right up to XL for dogs such as German Shepherds and a total of 6 sizes in all. Have a look at their web page to determine which size collar your dog will need.  If you’re giving this as a gift, it’s worth noting that it comes in a handy cotton pouch that makes it easier to wrap or box for Christmas.

With the workmanship of all the Pampeano range, I can imagine this collar will last a lifetime, and with the distinct design you’ll be able to locate it anywhere in the house, or whilst you and the dog are out and about.  If you and your dog love matching too, then the collar, lead and your very own Multi belt are a must this Christmas!

A Scaretastic Time at The London Dungeon

Disclaimer – We received entry to this attraction free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Housed on the South Bank in the shadow of the London Eye, The London Dungeon is a walk-through attraction of some of London’s darker historical moments. Very easy to get to – a tube ride to Westminster and walk across the bridge, taking photos of the London Eye and the Big Ben on the way.

At the entrance you are greeted by ‘decorated’ staff who guide you in, depending on your ticket. There is an opportunity for a nice selfie here, on a throne with a portrait of the King. A few security checks, a bag search then into three staged photo selling areas. The staff here weren’t part of the attraction and are very matter of fact – stand her, hold this etc, so don’t let this put you off the rest of the attraction.

However, then the ‘fun’ began. A jester gave us a few rules – don’t touch, we won’t touch you and it’s dark with light effects. Then we met a Royalist in the intro to the ‘Rotten Royals’, where we learnt about King Charles I and how we were to help rescue him from execution! This part of the Dungeon was quite historical and involved an executioner and a torturer and some wanted (or not!) interaction from the attendees. Then we went into Plague London, Mrs Lovett’s Pie shop, met a helper of Sweeny Todd and finished with Whitechapel and Jack the Ripper. Our final visit was to a judge who sentenced us all to death. Unfortunately, we weren’t hanged as the finale of a ‘death drop’ was closed due to maintenance. Slightly disappointing as it felt the tour had led to this scary ending. Instead we just got herded into the photo room.

Was it truly scary? I think this depends on whether you have experienced these tours with actors before and possibly your age. And whether you like ‘taking part’? We overheard one young girl gleefully talk about her dad being chosen as a prisoner and torture victim. Most of it is in the dark with well-timed light effects and ‘bits’ that move and water that sprayed you in lieu of blood. Very young children wouldn’t like it at all, but teens and family groups would enjoy the interactive nature of it. Rather than read or listen to information, you are addressed by actors who play the parts – an executioner, Mrs Lovett, a Jack the Ripper victim. This is good and entertaining and they try to get you involved and certainly ham it up for all it’s worth. We particularly liked the witch in Newgate prison – very creepy and in the dark with strobe lighting. I was impressed how they could move around in pitch black and jump out in front of the unexpected (me!).

You walk through in about an hour so have to be prepared to be on your feet although there were three rooms where you sat for a while. The tour is in groups so you move from area to area – no time for looking at the set dressing along the way, which would have been nice. And if English isn’t your first language you may have difficulty following all that is said – there were some ripe Cockney accents flying about.

At the very end there is a tavern, with a self playing piano and skeleton. The prices for drinks weren’t at all bad, so this could be a quiet stop for refreshments before exiting.

Tickets are £35 per adult, £29 for children, which although a little steep they do multi-attraction tickets which includes the London Eye, for example, and these work out at much better value, especially for anyone in London for a couple of days. If you are visiting London’s sites I would buy the multi ticket and do the London Dungeon as part of this.

Afternoon Tea Week at Dalchini, Wimbledon

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Not only is it Afternoon Tea Week (12-18 August) but Dalchini in Wimbledon is 25 years old this year and starting their anniversary celebrations! We visited this week to sample their new Indo-Chinese afternoon tea, and to see the beginning of the preparations for their anniversary year including their new Speakeasy which opened in May.

Dalchini (meaning cinnamon) opened in 2000 in its present location at 174 Arthur Road, Wimbledon, right opposite Wimbledon South on the District Line. Inside, the spacious restaurant is open 364 days a year with air conditioning.  We were seated by the large opening windows at the front of the premises – ideal for people watching!  The afternoon tea (£17.95 each or £34.95 for two) includes a choice of two sandwiches from a choice of 4 fillings, a choice between Crispy Chilli Garlic Paneer or Sesame Prawn Toast, Aloo Mutter Samosas, raisin and cheese scones with jam and cream and a selection of cakes and muffins including Chocolate Brownies, Fruit Tea Cake and Chocolate Muffins. The photos show the complete selection on the menu as a special taster but this was way too much for us, so the choice between the different sandwich fillings and savoury snacks is welcome.

The sandwiches are a mixture of vegetarian (Mediterranean vegetables and cheese & cucumber) and two types of chicken (pepper chicken and honey mustard chicken) use the Indo-Chinese spices to add delicious flavour that you simply can’t make at home!  We loved the prawn toasts too, which come with chilli sauce and like all the food on the Afternoon Tea, is made completely in house. In fact, even the bread is baked in house!  The samosas and paneer pieces are also fabulous, with a mint or tamarind chutney to accompany.

The two different types of scone (Cheddar cheese and raisin scones) are also freshly baked and you can really taste the freshness.  There’s strawberry jam and cream with them too. Finally, there are so many cakes it’s hard to keep up! The cakes are baked in house and include a chocolate brownie, dry fruit tea cake and vanilla and chocolate muffins. My favourite was probably the dry fruit tea cake which was full of almonds, nuts and dried fruits like raisins and currants.  There’s an impressive list of teas as well, where we opted for the traditional Flavoured Black Tea which is similar to English Breakfast, or the refreshing Fruit Tea called Granny’s Garden – made with fresh summer fruits and infused in a teapot to keep the flavour.

Along with the restaurant upstairs, there’s a new Speakeasy situated downstairs via a secret door too! Seating 40, the underground bar serves their own take on traditional cocktails and has their own beer on tap, along with Cobra and usual spirits. There’s a long table as well as a snug and it’s all air conditioned. Perfectly timed to help celebrate their 25th anniversary and in the run up to Christmas.

Dalchini of Wimbledon add that something different to your Afternoon Tea this week, and with the celebrations coming up for their anniversary, you can be sure there will be more yummy surprises coming up!

£17.95 each or £34.95 for 2: https://www.dalchini.co.uk/afternoon-tea
