Wickedly Welsh Chocolate for Father’s Day

Chocolate Lovers listen up… there’s a new chocolate in town (the Welsh town of Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire) where the team at Wickedly Welsh have created a fabulous chocolate hamper for Father’s Day, which you wont’ be able to resist!

You can be the biggest chocolate lover in the world and still find some joy in this hamper.  The starring role goes to the varied chocolate flavours which is what Wickedly Welsh are famous for.  Boasting three large slabs of chocolate, two whisky bite sized chocolates and two love spoons, there’s plenty here to keep Dad happy, and saves you putting together a gift hamper of your own!

Starting with the chocolate slabs, the three flavours are Moreish Milk Chocolate, Coffee & Biscuit and Welsh Sea Salt & Caramel, each of about 90grams in weight.  If your Dad is Welsh, then he’ll love the Milk Chocolate slab with the Welsh Dragon design, but all of the slabs are one piece, not squares. We suspect this is so that Dad doesn’t have to share them with anyone else!  We loved all flavours, but the Sea Salt & Caramel was a particular favourite. The sea salt is actually Halen Mon Sea Salt, a locally sourced ingredient to make it a Welsh taste sensation.

Also in the hamper are two Milk & Dark Love Spoons.  Welsh Love Spoons are a symbol of love, and these 40 gram bars are no exception. If you don’t want to tuck into a large slab of chocolate, or want to take a snack with you, these Love Spoons are a brilliant choice.

Lastly, the pack also contains two of Wickedly Welsh’s most popular individual chocolates in a cute presentation box.  If you’re new to Welsh chocolate or the way Wickedly Welsh present their wares, you’ll do worse than try these first.  They’re stunning, and so moreish I bet you, or Dad, won’t be able to stop at just these two.  They’re great tasters for the rest of the range that’s available online, and not just on Father’s Day.

Penderyn Welsh Whisky Chocolate & Puddle Deal

Father’s Day is notoriously difficult to find presents for, whether it be for Dad, Grandad or Step Dad. Wickedly Welsh, the home-grown chocolate company, have sent us a Father’s Day Chocolate Deal with fits the bill perfectly, no matter which member of the family you’re looking for gifts for.

In the Penderyn Welsh Whisky Chocolate & Puddle deal, Wickedly Welsh have teamed up two different types of chocolate products, both with whisky flavouring.  A new product to their existing range of chocolate treats, this dark chocolate is their usual high quality and made of 100% natural ingredients, but is infused with Penderyn Whisky. Distilled near the Wickedly Welsh Chocolate factory in the Rhondda Valley, the whisky adds a slight taste to the dark chocolate, but is not the overpowering liquor taste we were all familiar with growing up at Christmas! Instead, it’s a subtle taste which you can detect but isn’t overpowering. It means you don’t have to be a whisky lover to enjoy them, but any chocolate lover will relish in a slightly different flavouring but with the high quality dark chocolate to savour.

It’s the same 62% Ghanaian cocoa in each of the products, but presented differently. The Rich Dark Chocolate Bar, at a minimum weigh of 90grams is divided into squares which you can share, or not share! This would be great to be melted into a hot chocolate. The Penderyn Whisky Dark Chocolate Puddles, which have the same slight taste of whisky as the bar, are like giant chocolate buttons, with a light dusting of gold. Easily picked up and eaten, they are sooooo more-ish that I couldn’t put them down! With both of the different chocolates, you can taste the finesse of the ingredients and really enjoy the taste.

These are definitely chocolates for grown-ups and not just because of the added whisky but the dark chocolate appeals more to adults. They are wonderfully indulgent though and make great gifts for Dad, Grandad or uncle… their size also makes them brilliant to pop in the post!

Torabhaig Sigle Malt Scotch Whisky

Rarely can anyone say that a new, premium distillery opens in the depths of the Scottish country side but the new Torabhaig distillery is the first to open on the Isle of Sky for 190 years.  Using the natural spring water from the nearby stream by the same name, it opened in 2017 to produce malt whisky which distinguishes itself from traditional heavy, peated whiskies.  

Torabhaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky is characterised by the short copper stills which were created to literally fit in the building on the farm where Torabhaig is made. The distilling process is used to tame the toughness of the heavy peated malt to ensure it is well-balanced to give more even, delicate peat flavours.  The skill of the team of distillers is evident in the result and Torabhaig go to great lengths to ensure the team are well trained for generations to come.

The result is a much paler though still strong whisky at 46%. It’s tasting character is more of a dusky, smoky flavour which comes from its small batches it is produced in.  Very elegant in taste, it is earthy and tough and absolutely what you would expect from a Scottish whisky.

It’s a Christmas treat for anyone who is a whisky fan, or who enjoys something different rather than the usual run-of-the-mill whisky choices.

Double Dutch Winter Warmer Mixers Review

Double Dutch Drinks have certainly revolutionised the world of mixers with their modern unique flavours. They recently sent us their Winter Warmer Range to try and we were blown away with the taste.

The company was founded by Dutch twins Joyce & Raissa, who spotted that whilst alcoholic drinks were getting more diverse, mixers weren’t following suit, so they set about to change this. A move to London followed where they completed a Masters in Tech Entrepreneurship and, from there, Double Dutch was born. The company has gone from strength to strength, winning an impressive set of awards and commendations over the years.

The Winter Warmers collection consists of three different mixers

Cranberry & Ginger Tonic Water – This is the perfect festive drink this Christmas, warm and tangy yet with a hint of spiciness it is delicious simply alone with ice or as a mixer, the bitterness of the cranberries pairs nicely with gin or rum.

Double Dutch Ginger Beer – less sweet than lemonade, ginger beer is a versatile mixer. With a touch of heat and spice to balance out the sugary fizz and sweetness, it’s the perfect choice on a winters evening. Double Dutch blend three different ginger varieties to get the perfect balance of heat, spiciness and earthiness but be warned it does have a bit of a kick to it!

Double Dutch Ginger Ale  The success of Double Dutch’s Ginger Beer naturally led to the development of its own Ginger Ale, the perfect mixer for whisky. Like the ginger beer it has an earthy taste and it pairs nicely with whisky and dark rum. I’m not a big whisky drinker so tried it with pink gin and apple juice and I have to say it was the perfect combination, I will certainly be enjoying a few more of these this Christmas!

The mixers are available in 200ml bottles which are the perfect size to keep in the fridge and also fit nicely in a cool bag making them perfect to take to parties this Christmas.
