Softly Mens Alpaca Scarf

Disclaimer: We received these socks free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Ordinarily a scarf isn’t something I would consider as a Father’s Day gift as June is supposed to be lovely and warm and sunny! Not this year though, it’s still quite chilly so we’re having to wrap up on our evening walks so I know my husband would really appreciate a lovely warm scarf to keep him cosy when he’s out walking!

The Softly Mens Alpaca Scarf is made from 100% premium alpaca fleece from Peru and is lovely and soft against your skin. Alpaca wool is stronger, softer, more eco-friendly, and offers 85% greater wicking capability than merino wool so it is a great choice for outdoor activities, especially hiking, as it’s also breathable and wind-resistant too.

The scarf is nice and long which makes it ideal for wearing different ways, it can be easily wrapped twice around your neck, tied overhand or worn in the Parisian knot style the choice is yours.

Available in a fantastic selection of colours – black, oatmeal, sapphire blue, scarlet, dark blue, dark green and mulberry this scarf is not only a stylish accessory but practical too and will keep Dad’s neck warm and cozy on colder days for years to come.

Tozo – OpenReal Headphones

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

When I’m out and about, commuting or working in the garden I really enjoy listening to music and audiobooks. I own a few different types or headphones and it depends on what activity I am doing as to which pair I decide to wear. When I’m walking or commuting on my bike, I use a pair of bone conducting headphones as they allow me to stay aware of my surroundings but the one downside is that the audio quality isn’t as good, so I tend to listen to spoken word rather than music when I am wearing them.

The Open Ear Design of the Tozo OpenReal headphones get round this problem by using a pair of high quality speakers positioned over your ear. The design allows me to hear what is going on around me without compromising on sound quality.

Talking of sound, it is generated from a pair of 16.2mm drivers and they give a great sound quality, reproducing a full range of frequencies with no distortion. The accompanying app allows access to a graphic equaliser to further tune the sound to your preference. With the speakers sitting over the ear there is very little contact with your skin and so none of the sweaty feeling that can come when wearing other headphones for longer periods.

I found the headphones easy to setup and operate and controlling the headphones is simple, there are two physical buttons on the right side and a single touchpad for quick music control or answering a phone call. Connection uses Bluetooth 5.3 for reduced power consumption and better sound quality. There is a brief user guide included in the box but I managed to get them up and running without reading it!

The battery life is good, the manufacturer claims 16 hours of listening from a 1.5 hour charge with a couple of hours from a quick 10 minute top-up, I haven’t timed this but they will certainly last me for a few days before they need charging.

I’m really impressed with these headphones, they are perfect for commuting and with Father’s Day coming up they would also make a great gift for active Dad’s.

Lova Skin Instant Foot Peel Essential Kit Black Edition

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

A foot care set probably isn’t the first thing you think of when it comes to Father’s Day gifts but it’s an incredibly practical present especially for Dad’s that are on their feet all day. Long periods of standing and walking as well as badly fitting shoes can cause hard skin to form and if the men in your life are like the ones in mine, foot care and beauty products aren’t something they even think about!

My husband is diabetic, so it is important that he looks after his feet, he’s not the sort to go to a salon for a pedicure so The Lovaskin Instant Foot Peel Essential Kit Black Edition is perfect for him, it contains everything you need to transform feet from rough and dry to silky soft in under 2 minutes.

The kit contains

  • 1 Instant Foot Peel spray bottle 75 ml Black Edition – 25 applications
  • 1 professional double-sided stainless steel foot file.
  • 1 organic cotton pouch.

The kit is simple to use and there is no need to soak feet first as the product is used on clean, dry feet. Spray the Foot Peel spray 7 times per foot – on the heel, sides of the foot and toes. Once the foot is completely covered leave it for 60 seconds (no touching) and then massage the dry skin off using your fingers. Once you have done that then you can use the rough side of the foot file to remove excess dead skin and then flip the file over and finish off with the fine side. Once you have filed your feet all that is left to do is rinse them and see the difference it has made to your feet.

I thought the spray was incredibly effective and a quick and easy way to treat your feet. The process is very straightforward and so easy to do and the fact that my husband has been finding the time to time to use it shows how good it is! This set makes a great Father’s Day gift and goes well with the traditional socks!!

RRP £59.90 (enough for 25 applications – which is much cheaper than going to the salon for a pedicure)

Lottie Shaw’s

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own

It can be tricky coming up with the perfect Father’s Day gift but if your Dad has a sweet tooth then a delicious tin of biscuits and cakes will go down a treat and if you are lucky he might even share them with you!

Lottie Shaw’s is a Yorkshire family business that began 100 years ago with Lottie’s great aunts, Mary & Edith Harrison. When Lottie’s parents were running the business Lottie spent a lot of time in the bakery enjoying the treasured family recipes and decided to revive one of her favourites – The Yorkshire Parkin cake. This cake was traditionally enjoyed at bonfire night and Lottie, convinced the cake was a winner then created the Lottie Shaw’s brand.

If you look at their website, you will see that Lottie Shaw’s have lots of fantastic gifts and the Cyclist’s Treat Tin will make a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys cycling. The individually wrapped flapjacks are perfect for putting in your pocket when out cycling and will give you a welcome energy boost when you are climbing those hills. The tin has a beautiful decorative card sleeve depicting a couple of cyclists enjoying the countryside which has been drawn by Yorkshire artist Eleanor Tomlinson. I especially like the detail in the picture, look closely and you’ll spot a couple of Lottie Shaw’s biscuit wrappers! Open the tin and you will find a souvenir card along with a selection of Lottie Shaw’s award winning treats and the all important Father’s Day card.

The cakes and biscuits inside the tin are

5 x Yorkshire Parkin biscuits 135g

4 x Triple Chocolate Biscuits 140g

2 x Millionaire Shortbread 70g

1 x Traditional Oat Flapjack 100g

1 x Oat Flapjack with Chocolate Chips 100g

All the cakes and biscuits are individually wrapped and have nice long best before dates – although there was no chance of them lasting that long in our house! They all looked delicious, the hardest part was deciding which one to try first! In the end we decided to try the triple chocolate biscuits and settled down with a cup of tea! The biscuit was nice and chocolately and just melted in my mouth and I was unable to stop at just one!!

My favourites had to be the flapjacks which were flavoursome and incredibly moreish – they were moist and satisfyingly crumbly.

I love Parkin but had never tried a Parkin biscuit before and these Yorkshire Parkin biscuits absolutely scrumptious, they have the warming, spicy flavours of ginger, black treacle and syrup along with the flecks of oatmeal that I love in the cake but are in a biscuit form. My husband described them as a cross between a ginger biscuit and a Hobnob which sums them up quite nicely and of course they are great for dunking in a cup of tea!

I was extremely impressed with the Cyclist’s Treat Tin, all the treats were absolutely delicious and I think it is a lovely gift to purchase for someone special. I really like that it came with a Father’s Day card and the beautiful illustration which I have already framed.

At a cost of £19.95 it’s an excellent price for such a fantastic gift and I would definitely recommend it for your loved ones.

Lottie Shaw’s gifts range from £12.95 for Letterbox treats all the way through to £100 for seriously good large baskets and all gifts come with a personalised gift card.

Manchester Gin

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own

Gin has become incredibly popular over the last few years with plenty of small distilleries starting up, each with their own unique gin flavours. Being a gin fan myself, I do enjoy sampling all the different types and when it comes from a city close to my heart it’s even better.

Manchester Gin was created back in 2016 by Jen Wiggins and Seb Heeley who met in a Manchester bar. They both shared a love of gin so decided to take the plunge and create their own starting distilling in their dining room. Fast forward to 2019, the couple opened a brand new distillery, bar and restaurant under railway arches in the centre of Manchester, where you can not only sample the gin but see it being made too.

Made in the heart of Manchester the aptly named Manchester Gin Signature is distilled in a copper still and is one of the most awarded gins in the country. It is a citrus-led gin with 12 botanicals including orange, lemon and dandelion and burdock. The gin is spicy and sweet and makes a very refreshing G&T.

I served the gin with a premium Indian tonic water and plenty of ice, adding lemon and lime slices to make the perfect G&T. This is a very refreshing crisp flavoured gin, having a real juniper punch and a delicate sweetness from the liquorice.

Once I had tried a traditional G&T it was time to hit the cocktails and I found it worked well in the classic Gin Fizz or add fresh lime juice, homemade lime syrup and mint for my favourite – the zingy Gimlet cocktail.

If you are heading up to Manchester any time soon you can book a distillery tour where you can see the process and taste their gin for yourself. For gin connoisseurs you can even create your own gin. If you can’t get up to Manchester then the 42% proof gin is available from The Whiskey Exchange at a very reasonable £34.95.

Joe & Seph’s Gourmet Popcorn

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

With Father’s Day less than a month away we will be sharing some great gift ideas to help you find the perfect Father’s Day gift for your loved ones. First up are some great treats from our favourite popcorn brand Joe & Seph’s

The Budweiser gourmet air popped popcorn is coated in smooth buttery caramel and infused with 17% real Budweiser beer. It is light in colour and incredibly moreish so be warned!! It is best eaten in handfuls to get the full effect of the flavour. If you are polite and only put one piece in your mouth at a time then the main flavour tends to be caramel but once you start eating a few together the Budweiser flavour really starts to come through.  The combination of popcorn, smooth caramel and Budweiser is such a genius idea and this sweet gourmet treat is perfect for anyone who enjoys popcorn and beer.

Marmite is one of those flavours that you either love or hate – I’m well and truly in the hate camp but as I love popcorn I decided it was worth a try. The Marmite air popped popcorn is darker in colour than the Budweiser one and is coated in smooth caramel and marmite. Despite being covered in caramel it really doesn’t taste sweet, the Marmite gives it a meaty taste which was actually quite a nice change. Like Marmite you’re either going to love or hate this popcorn but if you have a Marmite lover in your family it makes a great quirky gift.

Nasal Active Skincare Bundle

@nuasan_active Skincare was launched in January 2020 by Dara Scott who wanted to create products for active people that weren’t full of chemicals that would help keep people fresh and stop aching muscles.

I live quite close to the office and keep thinking about cycling to work however the thought of arriving hot and sweaty really puts me off as we don’t have showering facilities at work. Therefore, I was really interested in the Nuasan Active Body Wipes as they solve this dilemma. The packaging states that they “bring your shower with you wherever you go” I was a little unsure that one wipe could replace the freshness you feel after a shower but after trying them I have to say I am really impressed. The individually wrapped biodegradable wipes are lovely and moist and convenient to use, it is easy to slip one into my rucksack meaning I can easily refresh no matter where I am. One wipe is enough for my whole body, and much more effective than a baby wipe!

The Active Body wash contains magnesium and arnica to soothe and repair muscles. It has a lovely fresh fragrance and was lovely to use after a long walk. Massaging it on my legs in the shower really did seem to help my tired legs and aching muscles and with no SLS/ SLES it is kind to your skin and doesn’t leave skin feeling dry. The peppermint fragrance is nice and invigorating and a great way to wind down after a run.

The Active Body Moisturiser simply melts into my skin and helps soothe tired muscles. It smells nice and fresh and is perfect after a shower. It keeps skin hydrated and doesn’t feel heavy on my skin.

The Active Foot care spray is proven to prevent nail fungus and athlete’s foot plus it kills the bacteria that causes foot odour. It’s nice and cooling and really soothes feet after a long walk. It can also be used in your shoes to keep them smelling fresh.

With Christmas on the horizon why not treat your fellow active friends and family to some Nuasan gifts, they have some lovely Christmas giftsets and with 10% of all profits donated to sustainable charities and environmental groups they are a great choice this Christmas.
