Edifier MS50A Speaker

The MS50A is a high quality smart speaker from Edifier with both Bluetooth 5. and Wi-Fi connection. As soon as I took it out of the box, I was impressed with both the quality and design of the speaker. At over 2kg it feels solid, the wooden case gives it a luxurious feel and it will look at home in most living rooms. The speakers are covered with a black fabric with a metallic accent and all the controls are on the top of the unit.

Primarily this speaker is intended to be used with streaming connections, connected to Alexa and then Spotify, Tidal, Apple Airplay and other sources directly rather than through your phone. That said, the built-in Bluetooth allows direct connections if needed and switching source is as simple as a press of the touch controls. One thing that is not provided is a 3.5mm jack for a line in, not always necessary but an option that I like to see included.

As I’ve come to expect from Edifier, the speaker sounds really good. The 25W 4” main driver handles the bass and mid tones with a 15W tweeter handling the higher frequencies. Music is full bodied and sounds rich with no distortion even with the volume cranked up.

Of course with a single speaker you’re not going to get stereo sound but using the app multiple devices can be setup into a left and right speaker pair. Alternatively, if you have more devices then groups can be created giving a multi-room sound system.

The speaker features Smart Touch Control and to control the volume you simply move your fingertips clockwise/ anti clockwise on top of the circle on the top of the speaker, switch songs by touching the previous/next icons, pause/play music by the lower icon, mute/turn off the speaker by a short/long-press on the middle button. The white and blue LED indicators on the top of the speaker indicate the signal connection of Wi-Fi streaming and Bluetooth 5.0 systems

Overall, I am really impressed with the Edifier MS50A, it is a great speaker in both sound and looks and at £110.49 it’s not going to break the bank.

ADAPT 100 Series 165 USB-C II Headphones

Disclaimer – We received this item for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

The ADAPT 100 Series from EPOS offers an exceptionally high quality choice of headsets designed to deal with all the very varied demands and rigours of the modern-day workplace – wherever that might be.

The ADAPT 100 range of headsets falls into the Enterprise Solutions category of their products & boasts an impressive 22 variants in that range alone. We have been very lucky to be able to try out the ADAPT 165 USB-C II model, which offers:

* On-ear double-sided USB-C headset,

* 3.5 mm jack,

* Detachable USB cable

* Built in smart audio tech for a disruption free experience,

* EPOS Voice™ technology and a noise-cancelling microphone to optimise speech and enhance calls,

* Integrated EPOS ActiveGard® technology to protect users from acoustic shock,

* Discreet boom arm design that folds away neatly into the headband,

* Plug and play device connectivity.

The ADAPT 165 USB-C II is most definitely built for all day comfort, with large on-ear leatherette earpads which fit neatly to cover the whole ear with no annoying slippage. This also means that you don’t get sweaty, sticky ears after a few hours of use! The ear cups are also movable so you can remain aware of your background and surround if you need to be. The headband is easily adjustable and the entire headset is extremely light to wear, meaning no more headaches & sore ears from heavy, cumbersome headsets. The boom arm is slim & discreet & very easy to manipulate as needed. It isn’t noticeable at all once folded away. All in all this is a very attractively designed headset with functionality to match.

Connection is easy – either via USB and using the inline controls mentioned earlier, or by the 3.5mm jack. This means that you can switch between numerous devices seamlessly, and, because the headset is wired, it means you don’t need to think about battery life and recharging – perfect!

In terms of the sound, the quality is exceptional & crystal clear. The noise cancelling microphone and voice technology definitely work very well because my husband reported that his work colleagues could not hear the dog barking at the postman / leaves / random cars and vans throughout the day! A very usual distraction in our house! The headset also features an inline call control panel on the cable, which you can use to open Microsoft Teams as well as control the volume / mute / answer & end calls etc. Handily, the headset also comes with its own carry bag and, because it folds down so neatly, it’s super easy to carry with you as you go.

This is, without doubt, the most superior headset we have ever tried & would recommend it very highly. We can’t find anything to fault it for at all, and in just 2 days it’s transformed my husband’s work-from-home experience completely.

The ADAPT 100 headset has a very reasonable RRP of £70 and is available to purchase from a wide range of online retailers.
