Clean G Rhubarb Non Alcoholic Gin

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review and all thoughts an opinions are our own.

On a sunny afternoon there’s nothing better than sitting in the garden with a good book and a refreshing G&T but the downside is the hangover that one too many glasses bring!  Fortunately, there are some excellent non alcoholic gins available and we have been enjoying this Clean G Rhubarb from Clean Co which has all the deliciousness of a rhubarb gin but doesn’t leave you with a groggy head the next day.

If you’re not familiar with the brand Clean Co they were founded back in 2019 by Spencer Matthews and they create premium non-alcoholic spirits which taste just like the alcoholic versions. Their drinks are in lovely art-deco style bottles that would look stylish on any drinks trolley and unless you read the label you would be forgiven for thinking they are regular spirits.

Distilled in copper pot gin stills the Clean G Rhubarb non-alcoholic fruity gin is infused with an array of fruit and botanical flavours, creating a well-balanced, complex spirit that has the beautiful taste and fresh dryness that you expect from a premium gin. I mixed it with an unflavoured light tonic to get the full flavour, adding the recommended wedge of lemon and found it to be a really refreshing drink. I was really impressed with the taste and it was so like a traditional rhubarb gin that my friends were amazed when I told them it was actually non-alcoholic!

With less than 0.5% ABV, no sugar or additional sweeteners and only 14 calories per 50ml serving it’s the perfect choice when you want something special that isn’t alcoholic. A party taste without the hangover – what’s not to like!

A 70cl bottle costs £16 and is available from Clean Co and supermarkets.

Clean Co Non-Alcoholic Botanical Spirit Gin

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Clean Co, the drinks company started by TV personality Spencer Matthews in 2019 has been going from strength to strength. No doubt lockdown helped with the sales of the company’s non-alcoholic spirits, but the increasing product range has led to people talking about all of their products. We first tried Clean Co over a year ago when few people had heard about it, but without me prompting the conversation, Clean Co (and specifically their ‘gin’ in the green bottle) has come up in conversation recently with the moniker of ‘the best non-alcoholic gin.’

To explain, the Clean Co products all mock the high alcohol volume spirits you normally find on the shelves but are made alcohol-free and retain the same taste. The whole range extends to; Clean G Gin (green bottle), Clean G Pink Rhubarb Gin (pink bottle), Clean W Whisky (dark brown), Clean R Rum (light brown), Clean T Tequila (clear), Clean V Spiced Apple (also clear). There are new flavours arriving all the time, so check out the website to see new additions soon.

The award-winning and original Clean Co drink, the Clean G works exactly like gin. You can make a cocktail with it, drink it neat, or simply add tonic and lemon to re-create your favourite tipple. It tastes so close to gin that you won’t know the difference. It’s also sugar free with just 14 calories per 50ml serving. The design of the bottle (Art Deco, 1920s) also makes it more theatrical to drink at home, making it easy to forget that it’s not got alcohol in it. Most people who don’t know the brand would assume that it’s not alcoholic either.

The Clean Co Clean G non-alcoholic gin was a hit with my friends, some of whom had already heard of the brand and one in particular who already drinks it.  It’s a winner in both worlds; non-alcoholic but with the taste of gin that allows you to enjoy your favourite tipple, guilt free.

Sinzero Low Alcohol Chile Wine

Disclaimer – We received this item free for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

No one misses out this Father’s Day with the Sinzero range of low and no alcohol wine.  The range includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Chardonnay, a Rosé and a Sparkling Brut white wine which have only recently been launched in the UK. Whether you’re drinking alcohol or not, each of the Chilean bottles tastes of summer and you won’t notice the difference having low alcohol makes compared to what you find on the supermarket shelves. Each variety has a maximum of 0.5% alcohol.

Starting with the Sinzero Chardonnay, which is both vegan and alcohol free, the unmistakeable sharpness of Chardonnay is still there, with a slightly fresher, fruiter scent and after taste.  This makes a great accompaniment to food especially white meat and fish and doesn’t have the acidic flavour you’re used to with some Chardonnays, probably because it’s from Chile.  I’m reliably informed it only has 20 calories per glass too!

The Sinzero Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon tastes of vanilla but has a fragrance of strawberries, redcurrants and summer berries.  I loved this one on its own, not with food but it goes particularly well with lighter meals like Italian pasta, it is a lovely lunchtime wine.  The Sinzero Chliean Cabernet Sauvignon is also award winning, with 96 points and a gold medal in the IWSC.

Sinzero Chilean Rosé is a great wine for BBQs and works swimmingly with pasta, cheese and lighter dishes. I can also be drunk on its own and is also vegan and less than 25 calories per glass. It’s crisp, floral and fruity, just like a rosé should be!

Finally, there’s the Sinzero Chilean Sparkling Brut.  We saved this for a family birthday as everyone could drink it, regardless of age or what medication they were on! The sparkling, crisp wine goes with anything or can be drunk on its own as the celebratory drink it is meant to be. Like all the other Chilean wines, it is light and fruity plus has less than 0.5% alcohol. Perhaps a good sparkling for family celebrations, especially as it’s got a slightly sweeter taste?

I didn’t know non-alcohol and low alcohol wines could be so tasty, let alone light and refreshing like the Sinzero line.  I’m looking forward to seeing what other varieties they bring out in the future!

All Sinzero products are available via DryDrinker.com;

Sinzero Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon from £11.25 p/ bottle

Sinzero Chilean Chardonnay from £11.25 p/bottle

Sinzero Chilean Sparkling White Wine from £13.76 p/bottle

Sinzero Chilean Rosé from £11.99 p/bottle

Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0%

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are our own

Most of the beers that we have tried in dry January have been alcohol free beers in their own right and not a non-alcoholic version of an already popular beer. Prior to starting dry January, I was of the opinion that non-alcoholic beer was dreadful and no substitute for the real thing, but my eyes have been well and truly opened. To be fair it’s been a good few years since I last tried a non-alcoholic beer which will remain nameless but I will say it was way too carbonated, lacking in taste and actually quite unpleasant. Non-alcoholic beers seem to have come a long way since then and when I heard Peroni have an alcohol-free version I was really keen to try it and see how it compares.

Launched in April 2022 Peroni claim it is virtually identical to the 5.1% ABV Nastro Azzurro lager, the only difference being the alcohol is missing.  Watching my local team play in the FA cup seemed the perfect time to open a bottle and put this claim to the test!

I found the beer to be crisp and fruity and very refreshing when served cold. It was a very similar flavour to the alcoholic version, not indistinguishable but pretty close. Removing the alcohol leaves behind a beer which still has the taste but won’t give you a hangover and is perfect for anyone wishing to complete dry January, or for those choosing to reduce their alcohol consumption.

Another great thing about Peronin Nastro Azzurro 0.0% is that a 330ml bottle contains less than 80 calories so is perfect for those watching the calories.

I will definitely be buying this again, it’s perfect to take to parties so you can enjoy a cool beer even if you’re driving and it is great to be able to enjoy a few beers when watching a midweek football match and still go to work the following day with a clear head.

Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% is available in 330ml bottles and 330ml cans and can be purchased individually or in multipacks of 6 can or 4, 12 and 24 bottles and is available from all major supermarkets or online at Beer Pronto

BOWSER LEAF

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review. All thoughts and opinions are our own

We’re almost half way through Dry January and with so many new and exciting non-alcoholic drinks to try I’ve found I haven’t missed alcohol at all!

Ordinarily I do enjoy a nice G&T so was really pleased to receive a bottle of BOWSER LEAF from Conker Distillery. Launched in 2021 LEAF is a unique botanical blend offering all the complexities of a premium gin but without the alcohol.  It can be served with ice and tonic for a refreshing drink or if you are feeling a little more adventurous you can create a mocktail?

Distilled in copper pot stills using New Forest Spring Water, five carefully selected botanicals – Patchouli, Mint, Basil, Tarragon and Thyme are distilled separately and blended carefully to create a well-balanced, complex spirit that has a beautiful mouthfeel and that vital fresh dryness that you expect from a premium gin. I tried it with an unflavoured light tonic to get the full flavour and I was really impressed.

A hint of spice, followed by fresh mint and thyme, this is a sophisticated drink that is refreshing, light and best of all doesn’t leave you with a hangover the following morning. It has the classic gin bitterness but with none of the alcohol or calories (BOWSER is calorie free) so it is much better for your waistline too!

BOWSER is perfect when you want something special that isn’t alcoholic. A party taste without the hangover – what’s not to like!

A 70cl bottle costs £20 and is available from Ocado

Mavrik Non Alcoholic Cocktails

Disclaimer: We received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are our own

It’s the weekend and even though we’re taking part in Dry January it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a cocktail or two – there are plenty of delicious non-alcoholic cocktails available now and Mavrik have certainly come up trumps with their exciting non- alcoholic cocktail range.

The Mavrik taster pack contains four 250ml cans and with less than 50 calories per can they are perfect for those watching the calories as well as those who prefer a non-alcoholic drink. Choose from

  • Aromatic G&T: A delicious version of the quintessential English favourite with a refined low calorie pink G&T.
  • Cuban Mojito: Zinging with mint and rum flavours, this indulgent alcohol-free Mojito is the very refreshing and will be lovely to drink with friends this Dry January.
  • Venetian Spritz: A refreshing, sparking orange drink, sweet with a hint of bitterness and is  delicious with plenty of ice and a few slices of orange.
  • Storm & Spice: a fiery, tongue tickling, low calorie version of the classic spicy Bermudan rum cocktail.

My favourite of the four was the Cuban Mojito which was just as a Mojito should be, nice and  refreshing with the taste of fresh lime and mint and with no sugar I can drink it all night guilt free.

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised with the non-alcoholic drinks, made with natural ingredients and carbonated New Forest spring water they are very refreshing and enable you to get into the party spirit without the hangover! They are vegan friendly, gluten free and contain less than 5 grams of sugar per 100 grams so what’s not to love?

Drinks Kitchen Spiced Rhubarb Apertif Review

The children are back at school and mince pies are in the shops! Before we know it Christmas will be here with all the celebrations, parties and general merriment that the festive season brings. Whilst plenty of us like to enjoy a tipple or two at Christmas, there are times when I don’t want an alcoholic drink but still want to feel part of the festivities so was delighted when Drinks Kitchen sent a bottle of their Spiced Rhubarb Non Alcoholic Apertif for us to try.

Founded in 2020 by Alli Briaris, the Drinks Kitchen is Somerset’s answer to delicious, non-alcoholic, premium beverages. Alli worked in the drinks industry and had a passion for innovation, identifying the need for a high-quality, non-alcoholic drink that wasn’t just an alcohol substitute when she chose to give up alcohol herself at the start of lockdown.

When the apertif arrived I was really impressed with the bottle – it comes in a stylish white ceramic bottle with a flip top (like on a Grolsch bottle) which my husband has already earmarked for his homemade sloe gin!

The aperitif is made from rhubarb, ginger and juniper and a hint of chilli gives it an unexpected kick. When you open the bottle the fragrance of rhubarb really hits you and once you add sparkling water (good job we had a Sodastream) or tonic the fragrance intensifies. Initially you taste the rhubarb, but it is then quickly followed by a gentle chilli heat that warms your throat, it’s not overpowering and is surprisingly pleasant and warming on a cold day, especially if you drink it with hot water.

The range is made with botanical distillates and extracts, and then blended with sugar to make a concentrate which is then bottled. Simply add some sparking water or tonic and no one will ever know you’re not drinking a real cocktail! So, whether you’re pregnant, on medication or the designated driver you can still enjoy a cocktail or two this Christmas without the dreaded hangover!

Available in three award-winning flavours; Spiced Rhubarb, Herb Verde and Orange Cinchona they cost £22 for a 70cl bottle with free UK delivery.

Sea Arch Sea & T Review

Disclaimer: We received the product for the purpose of this review but all words and opinions are our own

Afternoon Tea Week is the perfect excuse to catch up with loved ones over a lovely selection of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats. With the current warm weather, I have the perfect  alternative to the usual pot of tea and will be offering my friends non alcoholic distilled drinks from Sea Arch when we have our girly catch up this weekend.

Sea Arch is crafted using traditional distillation techniques and created with complex, natural botanicals such as sea kelp, samphire, cardamon and blood orange. The alcohol is gently removed to create a grown-up, alcohol-free spirit. Based in Devon the brand was founded by Sarah and Geoff Yates who wanted to create a drink that was full of flavour and sophistication but alcohol free. After a bit of experimentation Sea Arch was born.

The Sea Arch bottle is very eye catching, it’s a lovely marine blue colour bottle and it certainly doesn’t shout out as being a non alcoholic drink, so perfect for those occasions when you don’t want people to know you’re not drinking alcohol.

Sea Arch is a delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic gin alternative and is delicious served with tonic, plenty of ice and a slice of lime. It has the classic gin bitterness but with none of the alcohol or calories (Sea Arch is calorie free) so it is much better for your waistline too!

For drinks on the go the 250ml cans are the perfect choice. With a choice of two flavours, original Sea & T, skilfully mixed with a light Indian tonic and Rose Sea & T which is mixed with a raspberry and rose infused light tonic. The cans are the perfect size to keep in the fridge and they also fit nicely in a cool bag or picnic basket making them a great choice for picnics, a BBQ or a garden party this summer.

My favourite is the Rose Sea & T, it has a lovely fresh raspberry infused taste and paired with crushed ice and raspberries the flavour intensifies and is a real treat for the tastebuds!

Whilst I do enjoy alcoholic drinks now I have children the last thing I want on a weekend morning is a hangover so Sea Arch is perfect when you want something special that isn’t alcoholic. A party taste without the hangover – what’s not to like!

Sea Arch is available from the Sea Arch website

Drynks Unlimited

Disclaimer – We received this item for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

Drynks Unlimited, is an award-winning alcohol free brand who pioneered the Smashed range of 0% beer, cider and lager.

Drynks invested over £1 million into a pioneering alcohol free brewery in Manchester; making it the only British drinks business that have invested in a state-of-the-art cool vacuumed distillation plant which gently removes alcohol from fully alcoholic (around 5% abv) British craft beer, lager and ciders. Beginning life as real alcoholic drinks, this process gently lifts out the alcohol whilst making sure all the flavours and aromas are kept locked in.

Treating its drinks with respect throughout the whole distillery process is what results in such a delicious multi-award winning product.

Its first alcohol-free brand, Smashed, has five drinks in its portfolio; Smashed Lager, Smashed Apple Cider, Smashed Citrus, Smashed Berry Cider and Smashed Pale Ale are available in 300ml bottles and cans for both the on and off trade.

All Smashed drinks are vegan, gluten free (where possible) and contain less than 100 calories per 330ml.

Smashed is available in selected Sainsbury’s stores (Smashed Lager and Smashed Pale ale 4 pack box) and the full range is in Booths supermarket. It is also available online at http://www.drynks.co.uk, Amazon, Zeroholic.co.uk, Drydrinker.com, and a range of local independent retailers, restaurants and bars across the UK.

Drynks has won numerous awards for its Smashed range; its Smashed Apple Cider won gold supreme champion at World Cider Awards 2021 and gold in the International Beer and Cider 2021 challenge, along with winning a Product of the Year Award for its Smashed Pale ale in 2021 and Smashed Berry Cider in 2022.

Enjoy Summer 2022 With Belvoir Farm

Disclaimer – We received this item for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

After the recent #platinumjubilee celebrations it has never felt so good to be British!

Here at The Review Studio we love discovering British brands and introducing you to them.

Today’s delightfully #British brand is @belvoirfarm_uk.

Belvoir Farm know that the growth of Nature and the growth of their premium soft drinks business go hand in hand, so their commitment to the countryside is very real.

The great outdoors, in all its wild and imperfect glory, is where they’re most at home. ‘Crafted with Nature’ is the heart of their company values.

Belvoir Farm is in the Countryside Stewardship scheme, meaning they actively balance sustainable, profitable and modern farming with conservation and natural habitat conservation.

At sixty acres, their organic elderflower plantation is the largest in the UK – a genuine labour of love for their farm manager, Keith, as elderflower is surprisingly tricky to grow!

His aim, and Belvoir Farms, is always to tread lightly on the land, helping nature do its thing. Rightfully they’re proud of the natural ingredients they farm and those we harvest from Britain and beyond.

We were delighted to sample two of their stunning Elderflower range and have found our new #summer drink for 2022!

The Sparkling Elderflower is a wonderfully light and refreshing drink which is a real treat on a warm sunny day.

As a tee total I tend to get bored of regular fizzy drinks so was really pleased to discover this delicious fizzy.

The Elderflower Cordial was delicious both hot and cold and I even used it to create fruity ice cubes to pop into my Sparkling Elderflower drink.

Take a look at Belvoir Farm and find your #summerdrinkspiration!

Double Dutch Premium Mixer Drinks

Disclaimer – We received this item for the purpose of this review/feature but all words and opinions are our own.

We love summer! We especially love cocktails in the garden, or G&Ts overlooking Midsummer’s sunset.  @Doubledutchdrinks have revolutionised the world of mixers with spirits since they realised that spirits were coming on so much but the accompanying drinks were being left behind.  The female-led company was founded by Dutch twins Joyce and Raissa who moved to London to complete their masters and found the company.

What are the drinks like though?  We were sent 6 flavours: Cucumber & Watermelon, Cranberry & Ginger, Margarita, Pomegranate & Basil and my favourite, Bloody Mary. They were also generous enough to send us some Indian Tonic Water to round off all those flavours!

Double Dutch Premium Mixers

Mixing the Double Dutch flavoured drinks with gin creates an easy cocktail straight away, and the fizziness of the soda add some refreshment too.  You can use the drinks to make more complex cocktails though, but before that, you’ll discover that the 200ml size glass bottles fit very snugly into your fridge shelving or vegetable drawers so that they’re on hand any time! Don’t forget they’re also alcohol free so if you fancy a tasty drink in a hurry, they’re very handy!

The Cucumber & Watermelon is predictably very refreshing. The Margarita and Bloody Mary Sodas are new to the range and add some exotic excitement to any picnic on their own, let alone with any gin added. The Cranberry & Ginger flavour has a mix of sweetness and sharp ginger to offset the gin taste and the Pomegranate & Basil are likewise a mix of sensations which make cocktails very tempting!

Speaking of cocktails, Double Dutch have sent us this recipe for the Pomegranate & Basil mixer, called Mediterranean Blush:

Double Dutch Pomegranate & Basil Mixer, Tequila, garnished with strawberries and fresh basil.

Ingredients:

– 1 bottle Double Dutch Pomegranate & Basil

– 50 ml Tequila

– Fresh basil for garnish

– Strawberries for garnish

Method

1. Pour 50 ml Tequila into the glass over ice.

2. Top up with your Double Dutch mixer

3. Garnish with strawberries and basil

Available at Tesco, Ocado & Waitrose.
