Like many people with curly hair, I’ve spent years straightening and blow drying it and it’s only in the last couple of years that I’ve ditched the straighteners and started to embrace my curls. They are currently quite dry and unruly and it’s taken a lot of trial and error (and more money than I care to admit) to find a routine that really works. I’m always on the look out for new products to try and Curlsmith has been on my radar for a while, so I was delighted when a parcel of their products arrived for me to try.
The Full Body Weightless Cleanser (RRP £22) lathers beautifully and smells gorgeous – a lovely light, flowery fragrance that makes me want to keep smelling my hair all day long! The Full Body Milk Conditioner (RRP £22), with its handy pump dispenser, is easy to work through my hair and I found I didn’t need much to hydrate my curls. I leave it on for the suggested couple of minutes before scrunching and rinsing. My curls love the hydration and it leave sthem soft, bouncy, and far less frizzy. Even after a couple of days, they still look smooth and defined, which never normally happens with my hair!
Ordinarily, unless I spend ages carefully drying my hair, I end up with a halo of frizz. But since I started using these products I’ve found my curls spring back to life with no frizz in sight and once dry are defined, bouncy and look amazing.
The Frizz Rescue Finishing Serum (RRP £25) is enriched with sweet almond oil and argan oil has really helped banish the frizz. I’ve been using a blob about the size of a 5p which I warm in my hands before smoothing over my curls, concentrating on the top where the frizz is usually the worst. It instantly tames flyaways and is also great for defining individual curls. It does take a bit of trial and error to judge the right amount so start with a small amount and build up, otherwise you may end up with greasy looking curls.
Refreshing curls has always been the hardest part of my curly journey so I was curious to see how the Shake & Shine would perform. The lightweight mist sprays easily, locking moisture into the hair – in fact in Curlsmith tests it provided up to a 41% increase in moisture. It’s been a real game changer for my curls – a few sprays, a quick scrunch, and suddenly my curls bounce back, looking defined and revived with almost no effort.
Curlsmith products are vegan, cruelty-free, and packed with natural ingredients. I’m really impressed with these four products and the results speak for themselves. My curls are shinier, smoother, and, on most days, even cooperative. Every so often they do their own thing, but that’s curls for you!

The Disney Calendar is a family calendar for up to 5 people. Each page has a Disney cartoon theme from Dumbo to Aladdin and Lilo & Stitch. These are great for adding to the calendars but also great for keeping the children entertained in the kitchen when you’re trying to cook or concentrate. Elvis fans will adore this special edition Elvis calendar in the form of an LP. Finally, the Dr Who Collector’s Edition of the BBC programme is a Dr Who fan’s dream! It comes in a presentation envelope and opens up to reveal 12 frame-ready prints. This isn’t a calendar for making plans on, it’s a monthly collector’s calendar where you can remove the poster-like prints and save them to frame, but there is the monthly dates across the top of each page. The posters are all themed on details around Dr Who rather than the doctors or cast themselves. They remind me of artistic album covers which would look good on a wall anywhere, so it’s great to have a calendar which you can keep for longer than a year.

These days, headphones are not only getting smaller, but these essentials of everyday life are being produced in better and better quality. The Technics AZ40M2 earbuds are headphones with Multipoint (meaning the headphones can be switched between use on different devices such as your laptop, phone etc) and Bluetooth with noise cancelling thanks to the earbud design.
The drivers are 6mm for ultimate comfort. The carry case is exceptionally small too, which makes them ideal for commuting or at the gym, and the short charging cord (USB-C) means the headphones can be charged at your desk, or whilst you’re travelling. The red light pulses on and off when the box is charging, green when the headphones are fully charged. There are 3 additional ear bud sizes available with the packaging, which, by the way is completely plastic free. The earbuds have about 5.5 hours of play on full charge if you’re using noise cancelling, or 18 hours without. You can charge just one headphone at a time if you still want to listen to music though, which I thought was a really good tip! 15 minutes of quick charge will give you 60 minutes of listening. I haven’t yet been able to check though, how long it takes to fully charge them from completely dead, but I’m told it’s around 3 hours.
The headphones come in 3 different colours; silver, black and these ones are rose gold, which matches most brands of phones too. You can have noise cancelling as a complete block-out, or Attention Mode to focus on speech. Natural Ambient Mode allows you to select how much background sound to hear. The touch controls on the earbuds include one tap for play, two taps on the left for volume down, two taps on the right for skip a track and so on… there’s a menu in the ‘Let’s get Started’ guide which comes in the box.
The instructions also explain how to pair the earbuds with your phone using Bluetooth. Just put the earphones in your ears, press the control pad for 5-8 seconds and you’ll hear music playing. Your device with Bluetooth will be able to pick up that the earbuds are available. It literally took 3 seconds! I would recommend downloading the Technics app for your phone though, as it gives more flexibility in the different controls you have, especially if you don’t want to learn what the tapping sequences do when wearing them.
The sound quality is excellent and very sharp. I didn’t find that the Bluetooth dropped out at all, and I used the app for the controls at first so that I didn’t have to keep looking for the paper instructions. I like my music quite loud, and I like to be able to adjust the bass etc. It doesn’t take long to learn the app and the headphones adjust quickly.
These are brilliant headphones for a stocking filler or a Christmas gift to yourself!

I have suffered with eczema for many years, most of the time it’s under control but every now and again it flares up, with my hands and feet suffering the most. I love how easy the bars are to use, the circular shape fits nicely in my hand, and when wet you get a rich, creamy lather which I stroke through my hair before massaging it in. Since I started using the Nope bars, I’ve noticed a real improvement in my hair, it feels less dry, and my curls are more defined and hold their shape for longer. The Hydrating Cleanser is just as lovely, it’s gentle, creamy, and leaves your skin feeling fresh but never tight. It contains Jojoba Oil and Aloe Vera, which really help calm things down making it perfect if your skin can be a bit sensitive. I love the pump bottle too, it’s so easy to use and means you can dispense just the right amount. It takes off all my makeup and the day’s grime without any fuss and my skin feels beautifully clean and hydrated afterwards.
Another thing I really like is that all their skincare is vegan, cruelty-free, and made right here in the UK, which is fantastic. No nasties either, no sulphates, parabens or any of those harsh chemicals, so it’s suitable for all skin types. And if you’re always on the go, like most of us are, these products really fit into a busy routine without skimping on results.
I have to say, I’m genuinely impressed with these Oscar Charles products. They’ve got the luxurious feel you usually only find in much pricier skincare, but without the hefty price tag – which is amazing! What I loved most is that it doesn’t strip away the natural oils, so my hair feels hydrated and healthy after every wash – and it isn’t just good for curly hair, it works for all hair types too.
Now onto the conditioner – and wow, what a treat! It delivers an intense boost of hydration, leaving it silky smooth and, dare I say, frizz-free. Just like the shampoo, it uses Fibre Bond Technology to strengthen and nourish each strand. The formula is beautifully rich and creamy yet somehow remains lightweight, so it nourishes without leaving any heaviness behind. My curly hair is fairly long, dry, and damaged, so I usually need a hefty dollop of conditioner to work through it. But with Wonder 10, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a little goes a long way – meaning the bottle will last much longer, which is always a bonus! I scrunched it into my curls, left it on for a couple of minutes, and it rinsed out effortlessly. The result? Hair that felt instantly smoother and easier to manage.
After drying, my hair looked so shiny and healthy, my curls had bounce and definition, and the frizz was noticeably tamed – something I usually struggle with. After a few washes, I could see a difference, my hair was less frizzy, softer, and felt properly nourished for the first time in ages.

I’m a big fan of cleansing balms, and I have to say, this oil-based one has really impressed me – especially considering it’s a fraction of the price of my usual brand! It melts makeup away effortlessly, leaving my skin feeling beautifully silky without that uncomfortable tightness you sometimes get from a cleanser . The hydrophilic formula turns into a lovely milky texture when you add water, making it a breeze to rinse off. I like to use a damp flannel to remove it, and it does a brilliant job of deeply cleansing pores and getting rid of the day’s grime.
Enriched with plant-based squalane, it leaves skin soft, smooth, and protected. The subtle floral scent is gorgeous too, making my cleansing routine feel like a little spa treat at home. It’s the perfect way for Mum to unwind at the end of a busy day, and at such a budget-friendly price, it’s hard to resist!
The day cream is lightweight yet intensely hydrating, absorbing beautifully without leaving any greasy residue. Infused with nourishing ingredients, it leaves my skin plump, glowing, and ready to face the day, making it ideal for busy Mums who need a quick but effective skincare routine.

Finally, we have the beginnings of summer here in the UK with some beautiful spring weather. With a few weeks left until Mother’s Day, Yankee Candle have brought out some beautiful summer candles in a new range called Hello Italy.
Featuring Mediterranean inspired scents such as Capri Glow, Azure Sky and two fragranced candles sent to us called Lemon Gelato and Olive & Cypress. Can you feel the warm Italian sun already?
The Lemon Gelato Yankee Candle evokes that late morning ice cream from the local gelato where you stroll along the beach or amongst the dusty lanes after breakfast. The Lemon Gelato starts off as a sweeter scent, with the lemon citrus tones coming afterwards. The double wick makes it quicker to burn but more even, and the glass jar looks not just pretty but keeps the smoke at bay once you replace the cap and take away the oxygen. The scent of lemon lingers in the room longer than the sweet smell.
The Olive & Cypress Yankee Candle reminds me of waking up with the sun shining and the scent of the countryside. The woody effect of the cypress tree is the first fragrance to hit but I really like the joint, musky tone of the olive coming through. This is more of an evening scent for me. Something to burn over dinner or after dinner with drinks compared to the sweet Lemon Gelato candle.
Both candles are 368 grams which is the medium size in the Hello Italy range. The other sizes are Signature Jar (567 grams) and Mini at 37 grams. These medium jars have a burn time of 35-50 hours and you can make them last longer and have a less strong fragrance if you only burn one of the wicks. That’s effectively burning the. Candle for 2-3 hours every evening for 2 weeks! What isn’t there to like for a Mother’s Day gift?

I love candles, my house is filled with them, and I can’t resist the candle section in shops, spending ages sniffing every single one before convincing myself that I absolutely need another one (or three!) A good sleep mask is an absolute beauty essential and SMUG have plenty to choose from. I tried both the Satin Sleep Mask and the Contoured 3D Blackout Sleep Mask, and while both are dreamy, the contoured one is my favourite because it sits so comfortably and stays put. Plus, there are loads of cute designs so there’s bound to be one that matches your pyjamas! They also come in resealable pouches, making them ideal for travel.
The masks are beautifully soft and smooth and have an elasticated strap which was very comfortable to wear. They cover my eyes really well and don’t let any light in around the edges. I found them both very comfortable to wear in bed and slept really well with them on.
If you’ve got curly hair, this will be your new best friend! It’s double-sided, with a microfibre layer for drying hair and a satin side to protect your curls overnight. My usual ‘pineapple’ bedtime hairstyle has been replaced by this turban, and the difference is incredible, no more waking up to a frizz explosion and it’s much easier to refresh my hair in the morning as the curls are less crushed. Being double sided is a real bonus and is great for travelling, keeping hair sleek and smooth on the go.

A book which is dedicated to gardeners and growers alike, with no prejudice regarding why you grow herbs and vegetables (cocktail anyone?) by writer Lady Muck. You’ll pick up gardening tips, morsels of information about Lady Muck’s life, past and present, and have a few laughs at the shenanigans she gets up to, too.
Having previously worked in The City, Lady Muck began writing articles for magazines when she started her own herb garden. Admittedly, she only started growing to be able to garnish her homemade cocktails with her home grown plants, but that grew to growing lots of other herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers. The short chapters detail her journey along the way and tell the story of how a cocktail herbalist got to a top tier gardener, notwithstanding ‘help’ from her husband along the way.
The book is organised into article-length chapters with bold, colourful illustrations along the way. Each chapter tells the story of Lady Muck gardening, and her life with His Lordship, her husband. It’s very funny, and a narrative on modern day marriages especially past a certain age. Think Bridget Jones but older, and with even more cocktails but a few wellies and soggy lettuces along the way. Very entertaining, fans of Lady Muck will love it, and anyone looking for a stocking filler, light reading for commuting or a holiday read will relish it.

Talented artist Frank Porthouse is more than just an artist. A 55 year career in architecture has spawned a love of drawing which includes not just architectural design and drawing on a commercial basis, but watercolours and ink sketches on topics ranging from buildings to portraits and even movement in sport. This array of subjects has led to Franzart’s website. Gifts galore are based on Frank’s artwork including greetings cards and postcards, tote bags and ceramic mugs. The horse-themed ‘Freedom’ mug is one of a range of 20 different varying designs of mugs on Frank’s website which includes other animals such as dogs of different breeds, more horses, a cow and a particularly cute rabbit!
