Judging by my inbox and Instagram feed, it seems September is the crucial time to start thinking about Advent calendars. If you’re on the lookout for an alternative to the traditional chocolate version for younger children, the Orchard Toys Advent Colouring and Activity Book is a lovely choice – and it has the added bonus of keeping little ones happily occupied in the run-up to Christmas.

From the 1st of December right through to Christmas Eve, children can enjoy a daily festive activity including a word search full of Christmas treats, pictures to colour, and even a recipe for no-bake Christmas puddings. The activities are varied and perfect for getting little ones into the mood for Christmas.
Little ones always love stickers and there’s plenty in this book, each completed page earns a number sticker and there’s also a pull-out Christmas scene at the back of the book, ready to be decorated with special stickers as the days tick by. By Christmas Eve, children will have created a festive picture which can be kept in the book or pinned on the wall.
Another nice touch is the letter to Santa, if a photo of it is sent to Orchard Toys by the 18th of December, Santa will reply!
The activities are designed to fit easily into busy December days. A puzzle or quick game is perfect in the morning before school, while the colouring pages make a lovely wind-down activity later in the day when there’s more time.
So, if you’d like an advent calendar that offers more than just a daily dose of sugar, this one is perfect and at £4 it’s cheap enough to buy one for each child making the countdown to Christmas just that little bit more magical.
